Well I have held several bursts, many the histories not sure of , but the first real 60 Les Paul I ever held formerly belonged to Drew Abbott who was Bob Seegers lead guitarist, and one previously owned by Dickey Betts

Re: Players Bursts

I got to play Mick Mars from Motley Crue's 1960 Burst at a guitar show.

Bet it was rubbish (he says green with envy). I got to play a non-descript '57 Goldtop with shaved neck about 10 years back - it was rubbish too.

But in all seriousness, the reputation must have come from somewhere. I'd be made up to play a "players" guitar. Have played several 50s guitars now, but never a Burst. The ones I have played have been truly inspiring, and they have only been run of the mill Strats and Les Pauls.

Come on Singlecut, with some of your customers, you must have played quite a few, right after you repaired them! Well, you have to make sure they play ok don't you?

Howdy Sgt P , just duckin' and divin' and havin' some fun on this newfangled computin' machine. Trouble is, nobody on this forum knows Bramwell Withnal from the jam night down the Dog and Partridge.

Re: Players Bursts

Back in the late 70's I actually owned a few 50's Bursts,GT's,Customs, and a Derrig but let em' go because of the eternal quest for the ultimate Lester. If only I knew then..........!! I've played quite a few others owned by some lumanaries but one out of em' all deserves a mention and thats Greg Martin's 58'. Ultra light and supa, PHAT Pearly Gates type tone that is just a magic combo of all the elements that make up the ultimate LP package. Check out his site on myspace under the band title "Rufus Huff" and you'll see what I mean!

Re: Players Bursts

J Geils offered me his Darkburst in 1995 for the outrageous sum of $24,ooo and I didn't buy it. I know, I know.

I have played the Greeny Burst, a few of Rick Nielsen's, and one that was owned by some has been 80's hairmetal guy that was so unimportant that I have since forgotten his name. Famous guitars feel just like the less famous ones, just with more wear in most cases.

Re: Players Bursts

I've played quite a few pieces of old wood, but none that were owned by famous people that I know of.

This past July, I held and briefly played a '60 Burst that I was told was once owned by Curt Cobain in Seattle. As you might imagine, it was pretty beat up and had some mods. for sale at $300k asking. It was mellow, but I was no more impressed with its ease of play than my '05 Faded Standard or '84 dot Studio Standard.
