Strings hitting my `59 Special's P-90 Cover
The neck P-90 pickup cover on my `59 Special is warped. The cover rises up in the back which causes the high E to cut out when you play it on the 20th-22nd frets.
Anyone have a fix for this? I thought about putting it in hot water to try to reshape or even using some double sided tape to hold it to the bobbin. This is an early model Special with the P-90 right up against the end of the fingerboard. It's always sat pretty high in its cavity. I don't want to take the Dremel to the cavity to lower the pickup... I have a few other original `50's black P-90 covers and they all seem to be sunk in the middle and high on the edges..Help! Thanks!!!!!

Re: Strings hitting my `59 Special's P-90 Cover
Mike; The P-90's sitting right on the wood. No shims... Kim suggested double sided tape... All I need is like 4/64".
Just shows ya that they hand routed the depth back in those days. |

Re: Strings hitting my `59 Special's P-90 Cover
...no foolin',the routes on my Specials are all over the place in the bottom...tape will work...you can also buy a real thin wood veneer stripping for doors(outside edges) and trim to suit...

Re: Strings hitting my `59 Special's P-90 Cover
I actually found another `50's cover in my parts box that's perfect. The neck cover is shorter than the bridge cover. Mike; I do have to shim the bridge pickup up about 1/8" so the P-90's are equal in volume..
