Re: im going to a guitar show tomorow

hibernative, you're new to the world of vintage bursts?

That's the '58 Ganzler has for sale, correct? I think it's a pretty good price actually, and you can be sure Ganzler has checked it with a magnifying glass.

yeah i really am
would be cool if you could explain the attraction of buying that if you had the money (when you could buy like over 60 standards). is it like and old car? would you drive it during the summer?
to me... i dunno. i want to play a guitar and i believe advancements in manifacturing technology enables us to replicate the sound and resonance of these hand made guitars in the modern reissues.

as a newbie i just see an old, faded heritage burst with an insane pricetag isn't age the only thing not recreatable?

There are only a couple thousand bursts in the world - and everyone wants one. Unfortunately, they go to the highest bidder.

You'll need to pour through the vintage section and read some threads! Old growth Honduran mahogany isn't available like it was in the 50's, Brazilian rosewood is almost impossible to come by, proper finishes and glues are no longer used by Gibson, and that is just for starters!

If I could afford the $200k for that guitar - which I can't - but if I could, I'd strongly consider it! I'd be more likely to spend $50-70k on a P90 Gold Top.

If you're looking at a playability to price formula, vintage is not the way for you to go!

Re: im going to a guitar show tomorow

i guess it's like free jazz and albert ayler. first thing you hear is a wall of random noise, but after reading about it, understanding the influences and seeing where it's coming from, it becomes a lot more enjoyable.

i'll try to read up on vintage instruments. thanks

I've learned a whole lot about vintage Lesters from these guys around here. Greg, Bobbo, Roman, Delaware Gold, Mike60, Flick, Mapleflame, and several other guys. They're a wealth of knowledge. Its fun to just peruse the Vintage section are see what they have to say. I intend to own a GT or Conversion some day - but until then, my '69 and my R8 keep me plenty happy!

I saw this guitar at the Spring Philly Show, and the price was $25K higher. I guess this economy has hit even the blue chip guitars.

I saw Lefty Elmo and he was much more expensive at the Spring show. He could be had for a BARGAIN on Sunday.
