Re: dating pots

Get them drunk and you can do anything you want.

Actually, post the pot codes and I'll decipher for you.

Typically, it's xxxyyww

x = Manufacturer

y = year

w= week

so a pot code of 1375933 would be a CTS pot from the 33rd week of 1959.

In some earlier pots, the y is a single digit.....9 = 1959

There are more numbers you are leaving out on the IRC(International Resistive Company) pot that will tell you the year as well as the value.
The other is manufactured by CentraLab, eighth week of 1958

Re: dating pots

Hi,
I have a 1968 GT (refinished about 28 years ago to sunburst) that has pots marked "CBA 811 1053 AI". Does anyone know if these were standard issue? I've not seen them mentioned anywhere in the LP forums.
Thanks for your help.

It is a part number, not a date code. One could find that number on a pot in a vintage Gibson around 1965. They have no date code but are named in the 1965 Gibson dealer parts list. I have a copy. I'm sure it's possible that they could have been used as late as '68. Although these are considered rare they are original and seen from time to time.

Re: dating pots

Did you ever find the other codes on the IRC pot that came after 6154190?

Re: dating pots

That's odd. My pots might not be original, seeing as there are two numbers on each one:
They are 137745 and 70-029.

According to the guitar dater project, the first number means that the pots were made by the CTS in the 45th week of 1947 or 1957. That doesn't seem to make sense, seeing as my guitar is a '74 custom.

I think your pots are original but you are probably not able to see the last number. The EIA manufacturer codes added a seventh digit by this time and the year is now the fourth and fifth digits making yours correct for '74.
