Re: Beauty of the Burst !
My original copy, the pages are loose, my only complaint. Yes the printing quality could be better, but it is an awesome and informative book.

Re: Beauty of the Burst !
It is a must have. I'd love to get the hardcover just to compare the photo quality (but I'm not spending $1500 on a book!)
The Robb Lawrence book has been released...really! Mine is shipping soon (damn my cheap butt for going with slow-boat free shipping). The word is that it is OUTSTANDING; right up there with BOTB. I can't wait! |

Re: Beauty of the Burst !
I finally got my copy a few weeks ago and I couldn't stop the drooling. I will say this something is a bit off with the color in that book. Many of those guitars seem more orange then they actually are.
Awesome though must have for any LP lover.

Re: Beauty of the Burst !
As a Clevelander originally, this is NOT Joe Walsh in his James Gang days but around the Smoker You Drink/ So What days. Through 1969 he was using a Gold Top. We used to go see the James Gang every weekend and while I am not an expert on Joe Walsh, my gear memories are pretty solid and invariably, Gold Top through a twin and later a Marshall Half Stack. The last time I saw the James Gang live was in December of 1969.
When I saw Barnstorm at Kent State and at Blossom in the summer of 1973, he was still using the gold top. I'll find the pictures I took at KSU and edit this post later. ![]() Available light photography from the days when a camera was still ok at a concert. ![]()

Re: Beauty of the Burst !
I just bought this book through amazon. I got it last night and i can't stop daydreaming about playing or even being in the same room with these guitars. It was so interesting to learn about the differences between the years and what actually created and caused them. The wood for the top had to be bought from smaller private lumber yards to the shortage of black PAFS made them use cream colored. The winding of the PAFs were all different. I can't get enough of it. The history is so rich. I think i'm going to buy another copy just to have that feeling all over again.

Re: Beauty of the Burst !
Bursts are cool, but I'll always be partial to Black beauty Customs. That said, my current R9 burst rules!
But I really wanted an R8 BB, got a good deal on the R9, and lowered myself to a mere 'Standard" LP. ![]() ALl is good. The only thing I don't get is why so many people want to force fade their Bursts? ![]() I guess forced retro is cool, but natural retro is cooler.
