damn talk about potential buckle rash....holy crap that belt he's wearing in those clips is HUGE (still photo is the same belt) , but in the clip you can see more of it.

great sounding clips regardless.

so we need to keep plugging away at this...are there in photos or video of ole number one with Walsh?

This pic appears to be from the James Gang era. Could be it. Take a look at this link and go down to the Burst section. It was much more vibrant back then and the striping could be consistent with this Walsh photo. Any it changed hands April 1969

Not sure.. I've never seen any and I'm a Walsh diehard who researches constantly. Nothing confirmed as being "it" that I've seen but thanks for posting these great pics! Love to see Walsh with a LP.

Both the still from the vid and the image Core posted show reflector knobs so I don't believe either are number one. That is unless coincidently Walsh changed it to reflectors and Page switched them back.

Also - vid shows Grovers, wheras #1 still had Klusons when JPP got it. So that would mean Page switched the knobs from reflectors, switched the Grovers to Klusons, then less than a year later switched again to Grovers...

But anyway, the real point is that Page got #1 in April 1969, and the vid of Walsh is 1972."

FWIW I've looked, over the years, and never found a pic of Walsh with #1...

...but there must be one somewhere!

Here's a shot of #1 in July 69, about 3 months after Jimmy acquired it in April. Coincidently The James Gang was the opener at this show.

I have seen several shots from that era, with Page wearing his pink & purple Austin Powers outfit. But I have never seen that one. I believe there is some footage of them in France in the 2003 Led Zepp DVD.

I think this one is from June 1969.

Thing is Joe apparently didn't like the feel of that guitar after the neck shave so I cant see him playing it live a lot.

If there are photos I feel they will be before The James Gang.

Re: Has anyone got any footage / photos of Jimmy Page's LP from when Joe Walsh owned

I don't think so. Joe joined The James Gang in January 68 and he sold #1 to Jimmy in April 69. If he didn't like the neck, I dont think he would have kept it for more than a year. So I think he only would have had it while in the James Gang. I agree that it is very unlikely that he ever giged with it though.

I don't remember where I read it but I don't think he played it live either.

I have been searching for a picture of Walsh with the Page's number one FOREVER! I really don't think one exists. And if one does, its not available online anywhere that I can find.

Also, has anyone ever noticed that the main riff of "Turn to Stone" sounds like John Paul Jones's keyboard parts in "No Quarter" ??

The only similarity I hear are the notes around the Dm chord.

Otherwise, it sounds totally different to me.

Oh no, not another unaccredited Zep rip-off?

Seriously though, I don't hear it? I do hear a little lick that Joe plays which Page plays quite often though.

Re: Has anyone got any footage / photos of Jimmy Page's LP from when Joe Walsh owned

I don't have an answer about #1, but I can give you a little background on The James Gang and Joe. I lived in Cleveland in the mid 60's. The James Gang was the house band for our local "Hullabaloo Club". Glen Schwartz was the lead guitarist. Believe it or not, he was as much of a character as Joe. Glen left for the west coast and joined Pacific Gas & Electric. I used to go watch the James Gang nearly every weekend both with Glen and then Joe.
One Sunday, The Yardbirds came through town doing a bus tour. This would have been mid '68 I'm thinking. The James Gang, with Joe, opened up for them. Then a guy I'd never heard of, Jimmy Page, walks out on stage with a chair and acoustic guitar. He sits down and blows everone away. Then The Yardbirds come on and do their set.
Afterwards both bands were hanging out in the parking lot by the bus and they appeared to be walking like on eggshells. I believe a little indulgence was going on. Pretty funny to watch, and some good memories.
I was playing guitar at the time, but not into it enough to remember what Joe or Jimmy were playing.

Depends who you ask. Jimmy said he paid about $500. And I think Joe has said didn't get that. But I think 'Old Led Wallet' has his fingers on this accounts. I bet the knows how much he spent on candles on June 2nd 1972 if you asked.

In a recent interview, Joe said he only charged the cost of the airplane ticket to fly the guitar out to him.

Re: Has anyone got any footage / photos of Jimmy Page's LP from when Joe Walsh owned

I have read from different magazines three accounts from Walsh.

1) He gave it to Page because he was a struggling musician and didn't have much money.

2) Page allegedly stole the guitar from his house during a party,LOL, because he liked it so much.

3) Page bought it upon the insisting of Walsh. Approximately $500.

I bet Joe doesn't remember much of the 60's, if any. Which means he had a really good time.

The key would be the wood grain but the old pics probably won't be very good.
