![]() ....and that, gentlemen, is THAT. Good to see something positive happen for one of the "nice guys" in music, and that a long-lost LP Custom is back in the hands of its master. |

Re: Framptons '54 Custom found
Dammit, that video made me all emotional! It's a really nice story.
I wonder what pickups they choose for the guitar, sorry if it have been discussed earlier.

My guess is that this story may be documented as part of the DVD they are planning on shooting at the Beacon Theatre. The Peter Frampton Appreciation Thread

They special wound a set for him. I believe that was mentioned in the earlier post.

Re: Framptons '54 Custom found
I joined MLP three days ago.....and could not be more happy that I did- especially finding this amazing thread.
I saw Peter at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles several months ago (2011)...he was great. And now to read this....really made my week. Wow. Thanks everyone for all of the information and insight. Maybe someday people will get this excited over a lost and re-discovered Les Paul belonging to one of us!!! |

Re: Framptons '54 Custom found
Update from Peter's Facebook page..... It's getting closer!
Day off in Brooklyn, NY. Love it here. Tomorrow is Theatre at Westbury, Long Island. Then the Beacon Theater, NYC on Saturday. I get my '54 Les Paul back from Gibson just in time to bring it out on stage Saturday night for the first time in 31 years!!!! A day I never imagined could be and a day I will never forget! |

Re: Framptons '54 Custom found
I read every page of this thread in one sitting and man are my eyes tired.
Great story with the best of endings. Congratulations to Donald and Ben for "doing the right thing". Peter must be thrilled beyond belief. It's amazing that the guitar was basically unchanged from the day it was lost. One question...I apologize if the answer is in this thread and I missed it. Did the guy who was playing that guitar for the last 25 years indicate that he had ANY idea idea that this guitar MAY have been Frampton's, or that anyone even suggested to him over those 25 years that it may have been? |

Re: Framptons '54 Custom found
In the video where it shows Peter getting the guitar anyone notice his only concern to comfirm it was looking at the back of the neck behind the nut ? Wonder what he was looking for ? a break repar ?

Re: Framptons '54 Custom found
I'd say he knows the feel of that neck like the back of his own hands...always said one of the main thing that attracted him was the incredibly thin neck profile resulting from all of the work Mark Mariana performed on it prior to loaning/gifting the guitar to Frampton.
Few musicians are so connected to a single instrument as Frampton was/is to that old '54 Custom...Page and his '59, Peter Green&Gary Moore to "Greeny". EVH and Frankie...hell, we all know the list. I'm just smiling at the fact that he's so emotionally attatched to the guitar that he's putting it back in place as his primary instrument(most would put it in a museum somewhere). Aside from all of the classics he wrote/performed on that guitar, part of me wants to see/hear him pull off his version of Soundgarden's "Black Hole Sun" with his "baby"...regardless of what he plays, he won't be able to see the audience for the tears of joy blinding him. |

Re: Framptons '54 Custom found
Ah yes. See what you mean now.
That's a lotta wood shaved away there. It sure was,not sure how to phrase this correctly, odd how instantly he knew it was indeed his. I don't mean this in a doubtful way at all. I just expected him to sit and play with it a little longer before giving it the thumbs up,considering all that it has been through in 30 odd years. I guess it just goes to show how much it truly is a part of him. * what are the readings on those pups? I can't make out the neck…? |
