Sometimes amazing things DO happen!

It would be cool to see pics after the repairs are complete.

I don't know enough about LP's to have an opinion; but this was a facinating read with a wonderful conclusion!

A picture from the old and the new almost at the same place

We are waiting from the pictures taken at the Gibson factory. Donald was not allowed to take any pictures himself.
But there are pictures from the old and new together

Reason why is that all the speculation was about it getting reboarded in the late 70's and in fact it was done before Frampton got the guitar. The last video I saw proved to me that the board was indeed done before he got it. It's tough from my shoes as I view guitars as being original to it's year. After all the pictures that have been posted throughout this thread shows that from 54, the said guitar went through a lot of changes even before Peter got the guitar. Like I said I am eating Crow, I have admitted that I made some judgement errors. I will make sure to not jump to conclusions in the future until all the evidence is in.

Donald had the privilege to played it to dismantle it and take pictures from it.

So can someone be clear this up for me? Is this the 54 Les Paul?

I have been reading this thread for a month or so but it was either a 54 or a Norlin. Sorry if I sound stupid.

Either on this forum or the other, I believe that the employees at Gibson said the routs in the control cavities were correct for a 54. I would also like a concrete answer.

Here you can see the remains from the 54 routing

Ben thank you for posting this pic, now I see the smile end of the tenon. These were more common in 57-61 LP's. There have been earlier guitars with a smile tenon, but I haven't seen a 54 to this date that didn't have squared off corners. Also cool to see the Duncan labels.

Epic is so often misused, but I can't think of a more appropriate moniker for this thread.

noting or pertaining to a long poetic composition, usually centered upon a hero, in which a series of great achievements or events is narrated in elevated style

What a cool thread. That guitar has been iconic to me and millions of others...

Let's move on, I'm not the only one that had doubts. With several guys on this forum including myself that know about 50's Customs, had we seen pics of the control cavity and the recent neck pickup cavity picture we would not have doubted the said guitar. I see why your upset, that's fine, but understand from the experts perspective, if we had pictures it would have been a different story.
