I am looking to buy one as well. I just wanted to know how much I should expect to spend. Most likely, double black, with or without a cover. Wouldn't know anything about wires. I am thinking it should cost me around $2K?

In 1962 the Patent No pickup was identical to a PAF with the only change being the decal.
These go for as much as $1,175 retail.

1961 and down to 1957 would have all the variables , Magnet length, Color, Cover on, off
and the best, cover never never off, sticker condition, lead length.
Price range on these vary from $30 to $4250

A friend of mine just bought a clean 1960/1961 double black PAF for $30.
I paid him $1900 and felt I got a deal.

Double blacks peak at about $2500 if clean with no cover. With cover $3000.
zebra without cover about $3200 with cover $3700
Double White without cover $4200 with cover $4700.

Always an plus for a cover never removed.

I am in no way an expert,
However I have sold a few.

Have to see more of the pickup.
Based on the baseplate screws it's in the 60's, However it could be a T-Top
for all your showing.
Let me see the feet and the cover.

This is the only pic i have left of the pickups. Sorry =/. I hope it's enough to identify them.

(my camera has died on me) I think i will remove one cover. it's killing me

The covers are golden but it has faded almost completely.

What guitar is it in? Is it stock to that guitar?

Nope. This is a 90' standard. A friend gave them to me.(the pickups)

All i know is that he has 3 old lp custom. 1 wine red, 1 natural and other cream. But i think they are all from the 70's.

Should i remove the cover to see?

Here's the way I look at it:
I would not touch it unless I was going to sell it.
This pickup could could be worth between $350 to $1200.
The cover between $35 to $500.
If I saw the feet I may be able to get closer.

That pickup's been messed about with. If he saw it come out of a '59 LP & has had it for 25 years then what it the hell did he do to the braided wire?

if you look closely, you can see a short braided wire coming out of the pickup & into the tape. hard to tell if it has been messed with or if it just has a really short lead.
