re: The Official Vintage Les Paul Parts Thread
Thanks, Dan for posting some examples.
... In short / for reference, that's how/another way you can tell vintage parts (plastic) to newer parts. Old ones glow due to exposure to UV rays. Now a days, it makes sense to buy vintage knobs than repro as the price are almost the same if you know what you're looking for. |

re: The Official Vintage Les Paul Parts Thread
Great idea. I have just posted a thread of an old LP I just picked up and would like some help identifying what parts are real or not.

Re: The Official Vintage Les Paul Parts Thread
This came in the original case and I was wondering if this is an original patch chord for a 58 special. The plastic seems to match. Printing on the hardware says ( SWITCHCRAFT CHICAGO ) .

Re: The Official Vintage Les Paul Parts Thread
This thread is an LP porn-fest ![]() Post #97 shows 1952 Trapeze images. They clearly show the words "Les Paul / MODEL" on the front surface of the mounting end, as well as the "PAT / PENDING" on the surface between the mounting screws..... Anyone know when the "Les Paul / MODEL" text was first used, I only ask because my pre-serial '52 does not have that - just the "PAT / PENDING" lettering.

Re: The Official Vintage Les Paul Parts Thread
All 1952 GTs are pre serial#, And I've not seen one that didn't say "PAT/PENDING" in 52. My early unbound pots codes are 18th week and my bound 52 also says Pending on trapeze plate with pots codes of 38th week. Neither of mine say Les Paul Model on the trapeze.

Re: The Official Vintage Les Paul Parts Thread
Quote:
If a '52 were to have a serial number, it would be 2-???? and as far as most pundits know, there are none. My inclusion of the words "pre-serial" alongside '52 was for completeness of description, and I do realise the tautology of this - my apologies if it offended you..... although it is worth noting that some solid bodied Gibsons from 1952 have a three digit number stamped on the top of the headstock (moving round to the back in 1953) before the Y-NNNN format was adopted. Personally I have never seen this, but that information has been formally published by Gibson. However, my question was specifically about the images in post #97..... The guitar pictured in post #97 of this thread, as apparently ALL 52's, DOES have "PAT / PENDING" on the trapeze mounting plate between the screws. My question was regarding the words "Les Paul / MODEL" which also appear on the front surface of that plate shown in post #97. I was wondering when it was used if indeed it was officially, and if not - how come the guitar shown in post #97 DOES have it.
