I Have a Real 54 Les Paul ...
that I bought and used in the 70's..... It's been converted (in the 70's) Humbucking a refin and a tun o matic. Plays and sounds amazing but I'm thinking about putting her back to stock. Any Ideas who I should have do it. I live in LA but I'm not adverse to sending.
I need someplace really great, reliable and within reason $$. I of course expect to pay for the artistry of Renovation but I'm not a collector, just an old Texas Player. Thanks,Glenn Baren |

Thanks Roman,I think I met you when I was playing in the late 80's.
I think You built a BC Richish type guitar for one of my bandmates... it sounded amazing! Glenn |

Re: I Have a Real 54 Les Paul ...
ehh, he's starting to get caught up. The good weather up here this summer means the spray gun has been busy. Dave absolutely loves working on vintage pieces. He recently sent back to their homes some 50's stuff that'd make you shit your pants.

Roman or DJ would be superb choices; I wouldn't hesitate to send my vintage piece to either (if I had one...lol).

But, maybe the HM's have a different schedule than his restorations. I agree, he is a genius. And so is Roman.

Re: I Have a Real 54 Les Paul ...
Yup, the HM scheduling is different from the "other stuff". Dave does the HM's in batches with only so many per batch. This keeps him from getting overrun with HM's and clogging up the workload.

If I lived near Roman he'd be doing my setups - major work like that and I wouldn't even think twice! Roman is your man!

Re: I Have a Real 54 Les Paul ...
From what I've seen/read, Roman would be the man I would want to deal with, plus you live in the same town so you could go to him for a consult. It's a no brainer!

Re: I Have a Real 54 Les Paul ...
Awesome response everyone,Thanks.
After reading multiple posts on the subject I'm mulling either a restore to 54 specs or a conversion to some other year. The weird thing about this paul is the neck is not a 50's baseball bat, it's slim and fast and I know it's stock (unless it was shaved in the 60's which I doubt) I don't know if it would be worth more as a conversion to stock or to some other year. I know it will still sound & play great either way. Glenn |

Re: I Have a Real 54 Les Paul ...
just my opinion, but for value, I'd say as close to '54 stock as you can get it.
I think conversions have a much more limited market. Having said that, however, one of these days I'm going to sell some gear and get a conversion. But for value, I think you're always further ahead with originality.
