Re: Philly Show

Overall, I'd say the attendence is down, some key dealers not there this year. Not as many people either, maybe gas prices keeping the public from driving. I wouldn't have spent the gas costs to go this year, except I found three other guys to go with. Some exquisite guitars though. A friend of mine brought a 50s Lifton case for a Special and a bunch of 50s Les Paul parts to sell. He sold them all to various dealers and came home about 5K richer. A fun time was had by all!

Re: Philly Show

A local vintage dealer told me that the Nashville show had a bad attendance and I told him it was because the poor publicity. I didn't even hear about it until it was over. They have to get the word out there. They are bringing in a different audience now I think (at least an added audience)

Re: Philly Show

I wanted to go but decided to skip it due to low funds. I know how I am and would end up kicking myself because I would find "something" and not be able to bring it home due to lack funds, my recent aquisition of the G0 last week, and the PRS McCarty Korina two weeks before that , and the two acoustics I have on hold... grrrr!

I'm gonna have to start printing up my own cash! hehehehehe

The old lady just noticed I have an empty guitar stand in the mix with the rest of the girls. She asked me what was up with that and I gave her some lame line that "I like having a floater stand" while I'm jamming so I have something neaby to rest the guitar in should the phone ring, etc.

Nah she didn't buy it for a minute! Even I smelled the bullshit half way through my own explaination! But you know once you step in it your committed!

Re: Philly Show

Those are really nice guitars. Wish there were guitar shows near my location.

Re: Philly Show

I hope the show was better on Saturday than it was on Sunday.
I got there about 11:30 and found parking right at the entrance.
“Not a good sign” I thought, and as I expected the crowd was
thin. If you really wanted to spend money, just about everybody
would work with you. I didn’t have to look very hard to see
good deals, but not too many sales. The event staff at the
Rumbleseat Music booth was doing a great job. They seemed
happy to be there, and glad to see everybody that stopped by.
One of the few bright spots at the show. I can’t remember a show
that I didn’t leave without a bunch of sales flyers, picks, polishing
cloths, and business cards. I left this show empty handed. WTF
By 2:30 about 15% of the dealers had packed up, or were packing
up. I did see some nice vintage bursts, which is really why I went,
so I wasn’t disappointed.

Re: Philly Show

Well I was there, both Saturday and Sunday, Saturday was when all the action was basically.
I had the experience of trying to help my friend in his brokering role with this '58 Goldtop.
The owner wanted $200K and would take no less, so we were in a position of basically showing the guitar to a lot of people and hear them tell us it was too much money!
I threw together some photos of that guitar, a '56 Custom that showed up at Jack Romano's shop on Friday, routed for PAF's and supposedly fitted with a '59 and a '61 PAF's. One was a longer magnet. The guitar we took apart at the show, labelled mystery '59, was a put together guitar, supposedly around parts of a '59, including again, PAF's. The inlays and neck were a bit dodgy, ect. Also the maple cap had some laminate or something on it, as it was coming apart at the center seam, very weird.

Re: Philly Show

As a fixture of the Philly show scene for 15 years, I didn't go because I was away on vacation during that weekend. The past few years, the organizers had moved the show to a couple of venues that saved them money but screwed the dealers, so the return to Valley Forge is a BIG step towards revitalizing the show.

I will be back in the future, if only to pick up and drop off repair work( I do a lot for other dealers and it's a great way to get guitars without the hassle of shipping).
