Rist "workhorse"
![]() I have always loved LP juniors and P-90 guitars in general. It has been the "workhorse" of Rock and Roll in my opinion. One of my favorite guitar players in my formative years exclusively used a LP Jr. Leslie West of mountain. Man, how he could make that one pickup with one volume, one tone and a Marshall amp sing! This convinced me that you didn't need anything fancy to make a 6 string symphony. This guitar, The workhorse, is my tribute to the roots of Rock and Roll. Not the Chuck Berry or buddy Holly roots, But MY roots. Mountain, the Who, Santana, etc. Any one you can think of that utilized P-90s to rock. I have for years wanted to do a line of "simple" guitars, but being a custom builder people have wanted fancy. I have not in almost a decade done a set neck instrument that came in under 3k. In Jan of 09, I announced I was going to be doing an affordable line of guitars. With the economy the way it is, now is the perfect time to release the workhorse! Without further gibberish I will tell you about the instrument. 1 piece mahogany body 1 piece mahogany set neck Choice indian rosewood F/B medium tall fretwire 24and 3/4 inch scale Gotoh tuners Lightweight intonatable wrap around tailpiece Custom wound WB P-90 CTS pots Hard oil finish The guitar is based on that familiar single cut design with modern updates. 1) The neck tenon is much longer than on the 50s counterpart. It actually is as long as a "burst' Tenon. 2)The body is sculpted front and rear. It has a belly contour and a sculpted heel so the access to the 22 fret is effortless. This is achieved in part by where the neck meets the body. On it's 50s counterpart the neck joins the body at the 16th fret. The workhorse meets the body midway between the 16th and 17th fret on the bass side, and at the17th fret on the treble side. I did subtle changes to the body to give it the improvements I desired, while keeping the classic design elements of the original. I have built 4 prototypes and now have the 1st final design done. They Rock! I will only be doing 2 of these a month. No more. #001 is already sold! These instruments will be going on the regular market in the 2k range with a hardshell case. For MLP members I offer a discounted price of 1,895 including case. For additional info PM me. cheers Roman

Re: Rist "workhorse"
The 2nd one to go out went to Lee Jackson of the band Judge Jackson.
Judge Jackson on MySpace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Downloads This was actually a custom order and not the stock "workhorse" line. This was one of the prototypes. (Specs after the pictures) ![]() ![]() One piece mahogany body and neck. Quartersawn Indian rosewood fingerboard. Dunlap 6230 frets Cherry worn in finish with hard oil. The neck is almost completely raw, like an old played in vintage guitar. Gotoh Bridge, Gotoh tuners WB boosted P90. One setting is like a vintage p90 ( but a bit hotter) Flip the switch, and you kick in the extra boost feature. The amount of boost is like stepping on an overdrive pedal. This weekend the guitar made it's debut on stage in Las Vegas. Cheers, Roman

Re: Rist "workhorse"
I will say this about those guitars.
When I visited Will and Roman I could hear Roman stop every once in a while...and I know for a fact he was playing one of those workhorses through an old tube amp. (Think it was a Fender..can't remember.) The sound on those are unbelievable. The first thing I thought of was a late 60's/early 70's Rolling Stones sound based off of what he was playing. The guitar sounded very clean, very true.... PS: That's a hell of a deal for a handmade guitar. (and that's the word, too....I saw his shop. He makes them the Old Way...that neck has probably been completely carved by hand. Wow...what a badass guitar! )

Re: Rist "workhorse"
Thanks for your input Scott, and yes, they are completely handmade.
My goal with these instruments is to make a guitar comfortable like a favorite pair of jeans......nice and worn in To all the lefties out there; Sure I'll do a left handed model, same price. I do 2 of these a month, it doesn't matter if it is right or left handed to me. You just need to put in your order. In other words, cash talks ![]() cheers, Roman

Re: Rist "workhorse"
![]() Time to scrape together some $$ for Rist #3! ![]() Roman - you're the man. That is a great looking guitar - and an even better price. As the proud owner of two Rist guitars, I assure my fellow forumites that Roman will NOT disappoint. Roman's guitars ooze with quality and pride in craftsmanship down to every hand finished detail. I don't think I'll ever buy another guitar again that isn't either Vintage or a Rist. There is no substitute for either. |

Re: Rist "workhorse"
I've got to sell or trade this first. And I have to admit that in my research of this Special, I've become pretty enamored with the P-90's tone. I just might go this route Roman since I can't find a lefty.

Re: Rist "workhorse"
Agreed Amber.
Personally, I love the whole idea, those are some damn fine looking guitars. Unfortunately, I can't even afford a Squier Strat at the moment, but I'd sure plink down the 2k in a heartbeat if I had it |

Re: Rist "workhorse"
These are as nice as the Guitar for my Grandson, look at A Guitar for Grandson for photos. Mine has a couple of "upgrades' though. :-)
May I suggest one of these ought to be on many "check it out" lists ? Del |

Re: Rist "workhorse"
This says a lot about you - all about appearances and not substance, right? You've never held nor played a Rist guitar, yet you're an authority on just how good they are? Maybe you are consumed by jealousy? Whatever, give it a rest eh?

Being A Dick. This is a Business Classifieds post. Leave it the hell alone. You don't drop in to the members classifieds section when someone is selling a Guitar Brand X just to talk shit about the manufacturer do you? No. This is the man's livelihood. Roman Rist builds and sells guitars - and THOSE OF US WHO OWN THEM feel that they are worth every penny. Your presence in this thread is extremely disrespectful to the person who started the thread and builds the guitars being offered for sale here - and the only purpose of your pissing and moaning is to "devalue" Roman's work as you've proven by your comments - and the only possible "ends" to your shit stirring is to hurt Roman financially. That isn't going to happen, of course, because one nutjob of a squeaky wheel (you) is a drop in the bucket compared to the opinions of those who actually own and play Rist guitars. I can't for the life of me figure out what your problem is... Again - you've never talked to Roman or played a Rist - but for some reason you have formed an opinion out of ignorance and go around preaching your Anti-Rist message like a crazy homeless man wandering the streets preaching about some home-brewed religion. You are akin to a picketer standing outside of a business just to cause problems. No one gives a crap about your opinion - particularly in this context. I don't know what your problem is with Roman Rist - but your obsession with tracking down any discussion of his guitars just to stir the pot has gotten out of hand. This would be the third thread in a week I've read where you popped in to rag on Roman and the guitars he builds. Are you mentally ill? I ask that question in all seriousness. Lay off of Roman. You've never talked to the man, you've never played any of his guitars - quit being a jerk and move along to spread your joy in some other threads. You have some real issues... |
