Re: Rist "workhorse"

Wow, these look great, as usual Roman. How much is the tone bypass control as an extra?

And holy shit, can Greg play?!

Where did he find the time to practice between fixing the broken headstocks everybody keeps sending?

Thanks!

I actually have a complete control bypass on it now, so that the volume and tone are OUT of the signal when I hit the switch. Very effective.

Practice? What's that?

At the risk of sounding stupid. When a tone or vol pot is taken out of the circuit what is the nominal level? Is the pot able to add and subtract from the signal or only one or the other?

I suppose what I'm asking is, if you've got a complete control cut, does it give you a rolled off tone or a full on bite?

I only ask as this seems like a really great Idea for a single pickup guitar and it's something I don't think I've really seen before. A simple way of adding a bunch of versatility.

Full on Bite. By bypassing the controls, you are running pickup straight to jack

Many options are available on the workhorse. Contact me for details.

Because it is old school technology. Some of us old guys have been doing this for ages.

I'm glad you have

BTW, you said earlier:

'I build each one as if I were building it to own myself.

When I come to the conclusion "Hey, I want to keep this one", that's when it goes out the door'.
'

That should definitely be on your site

EDIT: What amp were you using on that vid Greg? Sounds pretty good to me.

Re: Rist "workhorse"

Tech21 Trademark 60 is my gigging amp for 15 years.

I have done the "blower switch" mod with a push/pull on my Juniors for years, that way I can have the volume backed off a bit and the tone rolled back for a killer rhythm sound and go to FULL FRIGGING ON for leads and right back to the EXACT rhythm tone without turning knobs and guessing.

Roman is the MAN.

Anyone that doubts that statement in an asshole.

That was was Tech 21? I've heard people saying some pretty good things about the sound of those but I've never heard one before. It sounded like you were going through a low wattage valve amp. Can't believe that's a tranny .

Here's hoping that this is the last time you are surprised to find yourself attracted to a tranny!

Re: Rist "workhorse"

This is really awesome looking/sounding (based off of Greg's clips). I'd like to hear a clean clip though for sure!!!

I've always wanted a Junior, and this one seems like a huge bang for the buck!

Heck, I always have my volume at 10 tone at 10 and don't use the neck pickup. No need for pots or switches. The warmoth I assembled only has the one volume pot, pickup (JB), and the output jack. That is my best sounding guitar.

Will someone who knows better than I please tell me this: Does using a "blow" switch as described above by Roman and Greg, which takes the pot (either volume or tone) out of the circuit altogether, provide a gain boost over the "volume on 10" setting described by ACELUEK? My understanding was that any pot, even if on 10, loads the circuit somewhat, so that switching it out of the circuit altogether still gives you a bump in gain.

Thanks.

Yes, it's louder, but not so much that you could brag about it.

Re: Rist "workhorse"

Pickup update.....

I took the 58 Gibson P-90 out and put in a custom Wolfetone P-90(10.5k). It came with Alnico 2 magnets, and at first I was pleased but not blown away. After dropping in some Alnico 5 magnets, I am THRILLED. Next is a hotter coil....I think 12-13k is needed.

I just took a couple minutes and blasted this guitar through my 1958 Epiphone Zephyr(same amp as a Gibson GA-40) and then through my Trademark 60 and followed by a Satellite Neutron. Through all 3 the guitar was killer.

The money spent on the Wolfetone was worth it.

Re: Rist "workhorse"

The workhorse is traditionally a 13k..........clean when you roll the volume back, and enough juice to drive the front end of your amp when you turn it up.
