The first of 2. (I comissioned one. Someone else ordered another.)

One thing that's taken so long on it....I have to be there for the final setup. Roman doesn't trust his own judgment on it since he's not left handed.

It's been a crazy thing...he shaved the neck on my Workhorse to my exact specs..I was literally there when he did it. (I brought over a Taylor 414ce and the neck matches that. That guitar should have an usually fat tone to it...even for a Workhorse! ) I was supposed to get out there earlier for the setup...but my weekends tend to get sucked away from me via gigging.

We may talk more about this piece as well...

Roman set that body aside...it's got my name on it. I still think about what could be done with that blank....

EDIT:

Afterthought....I have no doubts in the world about Roman being able to set up my guitar himself. But his whole thing is that he won't release anything until he loves it himself...and it's about as perfect as it can possibly get. So..I suspect he's getting me up there to have me jam on it and get what he calls "the smile" when I play it.

(the one thing Roman hasn't been able to do on my guitar is noodle on it endlessly until it sounds and feels "just right". I'll be happy to pitch in towards this effort! )

Re: Rist "workhorse"

I just got this cell phone picture from Roman. He has been a busy boy. Looks like there is gonna be a lot of happy folks out there pretty soon. Mine is the one in the middle, which one is yours? I think the lefties belong to Sentry and Big dawg but I am not sure whose is whose. Looks like one has binding and one doesn't.

Is the black one going to stay black or is that just filling the grain with black like I did on my Workhorse? No fretboard markings, cool look. Those look like humbuckers routes as well. Give us the story.

Re: Rist "workhorse"

I have a standard righty Workhorse on order; should be coming along.

I don't know if it's the one in that pic or not. But the one to the right of middle fits my order.

Maybe mine, maybe not...

But it is nice to look at all those sweet gits in one pic !

It should be easy, one has fret board binding and one doesn't. It looks like they both have almost the same grain in the wood. Both will be great I am sure.

Re: Rist "workhorse"

I talked to Roman and the Black one is a maple top guitar with a chambered Korina back. You can't tell from the cell phone pick but the black is translucent lacquer finish. I can't wait to see the finished pictures of it. Fess up, whose is it? Give us some more detail.

Dunno to be honest.

I'll know by feel more than anything else...mine doesn't have a typical neck profile on it. (It's based off the neck profile on my Taylor acoustic.)

On the blank...I'm sort of wondering what that thing would look like with a peek a boo wine red top, natural finish and back, triple binding across the front (none on the back), old school rectangle fret markers (the smaller ones...not the ones on the custom necks) and a couple of black P-90's with a Rist bridge and tailpiece complementing the whole thing...Hmmm...

Man those pics look great, all of the above! I ordered #10 in October. I have not spoken to Roman since December and hate to call him because I know he is busy and when he gets finished he will let me know.
Having said that, those of you around #10 that have spoken to him recently what is your Workhorse ETA?

I saw them support Clapton last year and have been hoping to see them coming back to Ireland.

Can we get pics and videos of them playing Rist's please Roman?

Re: Rist "workhorse"

what makes these guitars so special is it because they are made to your own specs or is there something about them that has been improved upon over gibsons or fenders. how much does it cost to have one built. just wondering i hear about them on the forum from members from time to time.

I will qualify my response by saying that I do not yet own a Rist, but I have one on the way.

I can only answer some of your question, as a result, and only from my own perspective.

The difference to me, is that Roman builds his guitars himself. They are built by one man's hands, start to finish. He works every piece of the instrument, including the final set up, to make sure it is worthy of his name. I think he says that he will not let a guitar leave his shop until he has gotten it to a point where he wants to keep it for himself, and only then does it ship...

Now, Gibson and Fender may build nice guitars, but you won't get that level of commitment from either these days. Not even close.

There is something to be said for a guitar built by a player not an assembly line worker or a machine for that matter.

I couldn't say, technically speaking, if he has improved on the designs or not. I'm sure he incorporates his own design elements that are more suited to how a guitar should be built, rather than those elements that are simply chosen to facilitate the lowest cost to produce guitars in large numbers.

At a minimum, Roman is a true artisan, as evidenced by his work that we can see. Those that own Rists (and I do not as of yet), consider him to be a true master.

A mass produced guitar may be a fine instrument, but it just won't have the same Mojo, IMHO.

I will leave it at that. Others that already own them would be able to better attest to the physical differences.

Re: Rist "workhorse"

I think Tojo got it. They are guitars made with the finest materials, which are specially selected to make sure they will sound good together. The wood is cut, and stored for many years so it can dry properly over a long period of time. It is then put together with extremely tight tolerances by someone who knows what they are doing, and takes the time and energy to do it right. This approach results in a guitar of superior quality and tone. And to top it off, you can spec the neck shape, body shape, pickup configuration, tail piece and tuners. So you get exactly what you want.

Re: Rist "workhorse"

Here are two pictures of the first left handed Workhorse almost finished. I am not sure whose this one is for, either Sentry or Big Dawg. Roman told me both of the lefties are finished and Sentry is at his shop this weekend helping him do the final setup adjustments this weekend on both guitars since Roman isn't left handed. They look mighty nice to me.

I still can't help but be drawn, somehow, to that mug on the shelf.

The guitar is a stunner for sure, but that mug -
