The lack of inlays on this one is the perfect compliment to the fret board and the entire guitar.
Off the hook gorgeous!.....my friend.

Re: Rist "workhorse"

Mine's...almost done!

I got to do something really unique yesterday...I went to Roman's shop...and he measured out the neck to my exact specs. I'll admit I...kinda sort know what a '59 neck profile is...but was that what I wanted?

Hell...I'm just a player. I'm not a collector. I just know what I like which is a big, fat neck!

I took out my Taylor 410 CE to him. The neck was cut along those specs...with a bit of shaving here and there. It's a big bigger than a '59, but oh so comftorable. (and with a neck like that on the guitar....matched with that P-90 and a slab mahogany body....TONE TONE TONE! Oh, she's definitely going to be the dirty little slut in my reduced collection that emphasizes quality over quantity! )

Re: Rist "workhorse"

Sounds great. I am sure that you will love it. Roman is working on my second Workhorse right now as well. It will have two humbuckers and a maple top. I love those fat necks as well. I wish I was closer to his shop to I could stop by and hang out. But the good thing, is Roman is still able to give people what you want just by discussing it with him over the phone.

Yeah....I'll admit I don't have enough technical expertise to do that. ("Ummm..yeah...sure, I like a '59")

Roman is an evil man, though. ...he showed me a left handed mahogany single cut body...with my name on it! I told him that would look hot with (after I asked about woods) a korina cap, 2 cream P-90's and a custom Rist TOM bridge and engraved tailpiece along with a fretoboard that featured old-school rectangles ala the Gibson ES series guitars. (Somethin' that would sorta look like...a goldtop but intead of being painted gold it would have a natural top and the dark mahogany back on it.)

I did tell if he built it...take his time. $$$$$$$'s gettin' tight.

Re: Rist "workhorse"

When I had my warrior made, I was lucky enough to be "part" of the entire build process. Bruce even had me do the final shaping by putting sandpaper in my hand, and go through the motions of playing for a good while.... It me ft me like a glove for yeard, and is still a very comfotable neck....however I'm more into baseball neck now and the warrior is more akin to a PRS wide/thin.

Just like having many differently voiced guitars, I like having many different neck profiles, especially now that I have moderatly bad arthritis, what feels good one day doesnt always the next.

Congrats on the WH, cant wait to see how it turns out.

Re: Rist "workhorse"

Wow, I knew better than to look in this thread...

I love LP Jr's and Leslie West.

Now I'm having an all to familiar desire to buy something I shouldn't

Watched some videos of the "Workhorse" that didn't help matters.

Awesome guitar

Re: Rist "workhorse"

Hey guys -- Here's another clip that I think really shows off the Workhorse. It's on the bridge pickup (Wolfetone P90) straight into a Goodsell Unibox. I give my playing about a B-, but the axe gets an A+.

Yep, it is a great sounding axe. And all the guts and bawlz you are hearing comes from a 10-watt amp with a 16-ohm, lightweight ceramic speaker.

I would love to see that as well. Come on Roman, give us get a little shot of the magic coming out of your workshop. We know you've been busy.

Re: Rist "workhorse"

A quick preview of the first maple top Workhorse (the name for this model will be "The Showhorse") taken with a cell phone camera. More better quality pictures to follow as things progress. This is a very early picture, not frets yet. The wood was wet to show the grain. Gonna do a Peter Green style faded lemon burst sorta finish on the top. Back will be a red brown. It should be really special. Roman was stringing it up for the first time yesterday.

Re: Rist "workhorse"

Yeah I went with humbuckers this time. It will make a good pair with my single P90 Workhorse. I was going to go with a wrap tail, but Roman thought the stop tail piece and tunamatic would get more of a standard Les Paul tone, which is what we are after.

Re: Rist "workhorse"

Thanks for posting the picture. That is with the first color coat. Roman just wanted to show me how much the flame was popping. It still has a ways to go before it is finished even though it looks pretty good right now.

He sent me that picture at 4:30 am. He is a wild man , or maybe he is a vampire.

I really like the flame on this one. It's not too much flame, very "vintage" looking.

Yeah apparently he's a night owl.
