Cool Black guard hand wound pickups 1950B & 1952T @ jonesyblues.com

I am now offering Black guard Broadcaster & Telecaster pickups that I personally designed to vintage 1950's specs @ my jonesyblues.com website. They are only $160 a pair and sound incredible. I have the 1950B set in my Black guard Tele clone and they will do anything from Johnny Cash to early Led Zeppelin.

Bobbins and flat work are lacquer coated before winding, and neck pickups are potted with lacquer for more clarity vs wax potted like most are. The neck pickups also come with thin nickel silver chrome plated covers not the thick brass ones which can make them sound dull. Bridge pickups are lightly wax potted.

My 1950B & 1952T pickups are currently being built for me by Master winder Tom Brantley who has over 16 years experience working for a another "Boutique winder" and is now in charge of the pickups at Mojo Musical Supply USA.

Check out my website for pricing and more details on the 1950B & 1952T pickups. Hand wound Black Guard Pickups from Jonesyblues USA

Re: Black guard hand wound pickups 1950B & 1952T @ jonesyblues.com

Lead times on these Black guard pickups is only about 7 days from when you order. But right now I do have an extra 1950B Broadcaster 7K-9K A3 set in stock and ready to ship out.

These are hand wound and use the 43 wire on both pickups, the neck pickup is nitro-lacquer potted for more clarity and the 9K over wound bridge is really fat and punchy. I have this 1950B set in my own guitar and I think they sound fantastic.

Re: Black guard hand wound pickups 1950B & 1952T @ jonesyblues.com

If any of you guys want a set of the black guard pickups let me know, I will do Free shipping for MLP members for the rest of the summer.

I will try and do a video when I get some time, been swamped with work here at my shop past few weeks. But for what's it worth the 1950B set sounds killer with the 7K lacquer potted neck pick and 9K bridge, the A3 magnets sound sweet. Great pickups for classic rock and blues or even country.

Thanks for checking out this thread!

You don't have to by the set if you just want one pickup, I am offering them individually so you can purchase the neck or bridge pickup from either the 1950B or 1952T set by itself.

The nitro potting on the neck pickups and thin nickel silver cover adds so much more clarity compared to the wax potted ones with the thick brass covers.

I am also working out the details of a "Hot rod" set with Tom. The neck will be 8K and the bridge will be something like 11K with a 8K tap

I put this one together just for testing out these new black guard pickups. It has a Swamp ash body that I sprayed with butterscoth nitro, then 5 clear coats of lacquer, sprayed amber tinted nitro on the neck, bakelite pick guard and all Fender hardware with slotted screws. Even scrounged up an old "brownie" .05 wax and paper cap for the tone control. Be glad to build one just like it for you bro, PM me if interested

I sold the 9K A3 bridge pickup from the extra 1950B Broadcaster set I had here to a MLP member in Canada and shipped it out yesterday. I still have the 7K A3 lacquer potted neck pickup here and ready to ship out if anyone needs it. It sounds very full and clear with some acoustic like overtones. $80 shipped World Wide if you are an MLP member. PM me if interested.

If I'm reading the paperwork correctly, Serial #002 1950B bridge pickup arrived safe and sound here today. I'll be installing it tomorrow and will report back on the tone.

It's going in my CV 50's Pine Tele. This guitar plays great but the stock bridge pickup is exceedingly bright.

Re: Black guard hand wound pickups 1950B & 1952T @ jonesyblues.com

I got this installed yesterday and let me just say WOW!

This pickup is awesome! Beautiful vintage sound (twang) and tone clean yet it will absolutely scream when pushing an OD --> Fuzz --> Amp!

I consider myself very lucky to have gotten one of the earliest serial number 1950B pickups as I think these are going to sell very well for Jonesy.

I highly recommend these pickups for anyone who is looking for an excellent all-round Broadcaster style pickup!

Hey that's good to hear, so glad you are happy with that model 1950B 9K SN #002 bridge pickup.

I love the 1950B set I have in my own black guard. I appreciate you taking the time to let me know how that worked out for you.

Thanks again!

Re: Black guard hand wound pickups 1950B & 1952T @ jonesyblues.com

I now have JonesyBlues custom wound 1950B Bridge and Neck pickups installed in my Squire 50's CV Pine Telecaster along with Jonesy's Broadcaster Blender wiring harness. The difference in tone from stock pickups and wiring to JonesyBlues is night and day. This guitar has become my favorite guitar in my collection overnight. The wiring is extremely versatile and the pickups are just amazing.

I recorded two audio clips with the help of a buddy who is a very good guitarist to showcase the tone and range of these pickups. Excuse any playing mistakes, we were in a hurry and did these both in one take.

The first clip is the Tele through my modded EVJ with a EHX LBP-1 TrebleBooster and Boss SD-1.

The first minute is the Neck Pickup with fixed tone, the second is the Neck pickup with no tone control, the third minute is the Bridge pickup with no tone control and the last two segments are a blend of both the Bridge and Neck pickups with the last segment having the guitar volume rolled back somewhat.

http://soundcloud.com/batman67/evj-with-tele

The second clip is the Tele plugged straight in to my Phaez Daisycutter. The Tele is played with the pickups blended until around 2:15, the neck pickup is used until around 3:45 where it is switched back to the bridge/neck blend. The first segment is played with the Boost on, gain around 10:30 and the master volume around 8:30. About 2:10 there is an audible click; this is the boost switch being turned off. No other changes were made in the amp settings.

Thanks Jonesy! I can't get over how versatile this guitar is with these pups and wiring. I think you said in your original post they can go from Johnny Cash to early Led Zeppelin. I think the range is a lot broader than that. Truly an awesome setup!

Re: Black guard hand wound pickups 1950B & 1952T @ jonesyblues.com

Black guard 1950B set has been really popular and with the right amp will do anything from Johnny Cash to Led Zep. I have these pickup in my Broadcaster clone and they are some of my personal favorites. There is a lot of work that goes into these pickups with the nitro coated bobbins and lacquer potted neck pickup.
