Re: ReWind Electric PAF INTRODUCTORY SALE IS BACK!

Here are a few audio clips comparing my different sets in the same guitar/rig/settings. I try to go through the full range of volume/tone controls on (each and both) pickups in each clip.

High Output PAF Set

http://www.re-wind.net/Audio/HOZEC1Set.mp3

Medium Output PAF Set
http://www.re-wind.net/Audio/MDZE2Set.mp3

Low Output PAF Set
http://www.re-wind.net/Audio/LODC1Set1.mp3

Low Output PAF Set Demo 2
http://www.re-wind.net/Audio/LODC1Set3.mp3

This is my newest set. It's my take on a '57 Classic & '57 Classic+ set. All of the great creamy smoothness with greatly increased clarity and detail. Non of the muffled boring character. These are open and airy like a proper PAF should be!

Crème Brûlée PAF Set

Here is some more info on my Crème Brûlée set. Don't mind the price posted there, I'll honor the sale price on these too!
ReWind Electric introduces the "Crème Brûlée" PAF set (do you like '57 Classics?)

Re: ReWind Electric PAF INTRODUCTORY SALE IS BACK!

These can cook with high-gain too! I just don't have any demos up yet. I prefer to show the sound in a clean-to-overdrive situation as it fully exposes all the detail of dynamics and harmonics. However, these play real nice with pedals and hot amps, even at stage volume. No unwanted feedback or squealing.

Re: ReWind Electric PAF INTRODUCTORY SALE IS BACK!

Off the subject and in no way meant to insult or denigrate your product, but close up shots of pickup bobbins always make the plastics injection molder in me go nuts, especially aged ones They are always full of molding flaws that would be rejected, then I'd have to adjust the damned press to make them right

At a glance, I see shorting, heavy sinking on the slug bobbins, knit lines, and a bit of flash on the cream bobbins. I think maybe I understand PAF mojo: crappy injection molding

Again, not meant to insult, just an observation of the parts. I totally get that it replicats PAF parts. Just think it's funny Gibson used flawed parts in the first place on the Holy Grail of pickups

Great price for pickup sets, very tempting!!

Re: ReWind Electric PAF INTRODUCTORY SALE IS BACK!

THANK YOU! Seriously.

You have no idea how much time I spent making those bobbins look that way in the aged sets. That's half the reason why they cost an extra $50 (aging the metal is the other half). There's a good bit of my time involved in each one. I'm very glad to hear that you find the "flaws" to be accurate looking. I assure you, everything you mentioned IS INTENTIONAL and accurate to vintage late 1950's Kalamazoo made PAFs. Some of those marks are done with an exacto knife, others are done using heat or pressure or other tricks. Some of it is just a matter of the vintage-accurate butyrate bobbins I use, as can be seen in the unaged sets. These are the most expensive bobbins on the market and as accurate as can be bought. The higher wire tension that I wind these at actually slightly distort the bobbins too, which is accurate to vintage PAFs and can not be replicated with low-torque desktop winders that slow down and crap out with the increased tension.

Really, it's a painful process to get these things as accurate as they are. Ironically, all those little flaws were unintentional in the original PAFs and were likely seen, at the time, as shortcomings that were hidden under covers. Now we winders go to great lengths and expense to re-create them. Much like fine luthiers do the "chuck scars" in burst control cavities, and the maple cap peeking out under the binding in the cutaway, it's capturing the little nuances that really shows a craftsman cares with a reproduction piece.

Some of this stuff is just silly, really, and I'll freely admit that. For instance - not only is the paper tape I use the most accurate available, but I actual CUT it the way it was cut in Kalamazoo. ...and it's cut two different ways in different places on the pickups. I cut each way the way it was done back in the day using different methods. Of course, it makes no difference in sound, but it's the level of attention that I choose to give each of my little electromagnetic babies. When you take a thing this far, you might as well take it ALL THE WAY.

Re: ReWind Electric PAF INTRODUCTORY SALE IS BACK!

I'm glad you took it in the spirit I intended. I almost didn't post that for fear of appearing to bad mouth you.

Part of why Gibson bobbins looked the way they did was the damned material. That grade of CAB was a pain in the ass according to the guys who've been around in the field longer than me. There's a reason it isn't used much anymore

Funny thing is, all the work you have to do the get the bobbins to look right, I can do easily with a few very simple adjustments to the press. I'm talking literally 30 seconds of work on my part and i can make those bobbins look perfect Of course Quality Assurance would red-tag my ass in a heartbeat if i did

I keep trying to talk the front office into getting us into stuff like molding bobbins and pickup rings, but they won't go for it. Phuckers

Re: ReWind Electric PAF INTRODUCTORY SALE IS BACK!

Ohya, I can appreciate what you are saying, for sure. That's the real irony of the whole burst reproduction game now. Folks put SO MUCH effort into recreating what was essentially viewed as "flaws" back in the late 50's. ...and still can't get it perfect half the time! We're all nuts. Certifiably. In fact, I just got my certificate proving it today from the State of MD Department of Taxation.

So eh, you wanna have a late-night covert bobbin and ring moulding session at your shop dude? ...I'll bring the flashlights, black hoodies, and a real PAF bobbin or two to copy. You do the rest. Fair?

Don't worry about the flashlight and shit, I'm the swing shift supervisor. I've got the keys and the alarm code Only problem is I know shit about making the molds. That's the Tool Shop's job

I swear, if I ever get any kind of money, I'm buying my own press to keep in the garage. How do you get 440 wired up for residential anyways?

Northern California. Chico, specifically. If you want, I can put you in touch with the sales engineer, but i gotta warn you, they've never been keen on doing pickup bobbins. They usually cite the cost of getting the mold built, but if you come with a mold in hand, they may be willing to go for it.

I'll be in touch down the road about it! It's not time yet, but I've been discussing this with a few folks. I'm on the radar of a couple guys here to get something like this done.

Wait until you get a look at the bottoms of my new ones with these super sexy waterside decals! I actually teared up a a bit when I saw them for the first time. They are SO well made and just exactly what I envisioned.

They will age like the one in my signature below.

Re: ReWind Electric PAF INTRODUCTORY SALE IS BACK!

The logo does look fantastic! Only one critique I can give them is the middle of "w" should match the height of the adjacent "i" but that is nit picking. I really like what you have come up with here. Tribute to the originals but with your own name on it! I totally get it and it comes across well.
