re: Jonesyblues Custom Shop @Jonesyblues.com

Jonesy - you are a tone PIMP! I threw the green set of Russian caps in my Elitist - they sound very good, as expected (can't beat PIO) - pretty darn similar to the Vitamin Q's - which means that they rock. What blew my mind was the Bleed Kits - WOW! (Thanks much, BTW). I'll be ordering 2 more sets from you after the holidays - I put them in my Elitist and R8 in the neck circuit. I had no idea that they'd make such a huge difference!!!

Thanks again - you're the man - and I'll be in touch with you early next month for another order.

Hey thanks, I appreciate the good feedback and am glad you like those Russian caps, I was really happy with them. Also glad those volume bleed kits are helping you out with your Tone Mojo If you need anything else just let me know OK?

re: Jonesyblues Custom Shop @Jonesyblues.com

Yeah, who was I kidding saying that I'd be waiting to order more bleed kits??!

(Not 2 minutes after I made my last post - I ordered two more sets from Jonesy!).

At $10/set, that is a hell of a deal and makes a world of difference in clarity w/ the volume rolled back - its by no means a "subtle" difference - those bleed kits are GREAT! Anyone who is on the fence about these kits should definitely try out a set.

Thanks again Jonesy!

It is fairly simple, you can install your new PIO caps just like old caps are installed. The bleed kits come with a little drawing and they are relatively simple as well I always offer help anytime you need it??

I'd never touched a soldering iron before I installed my first set of caps (less than a year ago). I've since done pickup swaps, several cap swaps, volume bleeds, and switch/jack wiring without ever screwing anything up.

I started w/ a cheap battery powered soldering iron - BAD IDEA - they're not hot enough and are a lot more work. Get a nice soldering iron somewhere around 25w.

All you really have to know is that you need to heat both the thing soldering and the thing soldering to (both the wire and the pot lug, for example) - and don't use a whole lot of solder (in most instances, you can use the existing solder - just heat your cap wire for a few seconds, and touch the wire and the iron to the lug until the solder melts, remove the iron, hold the cap in place for a few seconds, and you're done).

You can get these Weller kits at ace hardware for $15-20 I like to use the chisel tip for best heat transfer. You can buy packs of extra replacement tips for these and they last a long time. They even have a little light inside the plastic base that shows when it is plugged in

Hey that's my soldering iron. You say use the chisel tip instead of the pointy tip? Thanks for the help.

re: Jonesyblues Custom Shop @Jonesyblues.com

Cool, I think I have bought 2-3 of those....now I just keep buying tips. I use a file and wire brush to keep the tip clean, so the pointy tip can be easily filed into chisel tip. The chisel puts more surface area and lets more heat transfer to the back of the pots for quicker soldering. The point of the chisel will get into tight spots as well.

re: Jonesyblues Custom Shop @Jonesyblues.com

Hey Jonesy just wanted to let you know that I'm still digging my 50's harness. It was a major improvement over my old EMG setup. It paired up very nicely with the 70's super distortions I'm using. When I do get to plug into a Marshall my volume knob is very responsive and can really help me clean up my sound.... or push it into total overdrive lol. I'm not able to get on the forums much anymore and I got to thinking that I never really said anything about how nice everything turned out. Keep up the exceptional work

Yeah some thinner solder for electrical, I prefer the .062 60/40 rosin core solder the best. It gives me just the right flow for guitar wiring. If you were working on PCB solid state green board you would want solder a lot thinner to keep to much from getting on the board. A roll of the .062 is like $8-9 and will last you guys a long time if you are just tinkering with your own stuff.

I set aside enough parts for a Complete Les Paul Wiring kit, 500K CTS Pots, Vintage cloth wire, .022 PIO Caps, 3 way LP style toggle, 1/4" switchcraft input jack. Got a few orders ahead of you as you know, so yours will probably go out after Christmas. That New Danelectro Dist.pedal will ship with it as well thanks & peace, jonesy
