Pigtail aluminium abr1
hi everyone,
I was thinking about getting one of these for my 56 reissue, and it had a couple of questions I was wondering whether you guys could help me with. 1.firstly, what are the saddle is made from? Is it brass or aluminium? My thinking is that, Aluminium saddles combined with an aluminium bridge might be overkill on brightness, but an aluminium bridge with brass saddles might be a nice balance. 2.what experiences do you guys have with pigtail bridges, aluminium or otherwise? For those that have used the aluminium version, how did he find it affected the tone - did it increase resonance, more of a woody tone, increase brightness, degreased bass, make the guitar brittle and harsh etc etc. My only concern with going for the aluminium version, is that my guitar is already tonally well-balanced, and I don't want to make it thin sounding or overly bright etc. If however the aluminium version is likely to simply make the quitar more resonant, and acoustically louder etc, then that would be great! I look forward to hearing your experiences Regards, Johnny |

Re: Pigtail aluminium abr1
I have the Pigtail aluminum ABR on six different LPs - a few Class Vs, a few Historics, and a chambered R8. Can't recommend them highly enough.
The saddles are aluminum, as well as the bridge body. To my ear (the great qualifier!), it did brighten the guitar up in addition to giving it increased sustain. That said, I also use my tone knobs and would always prefer to have a little too much brightness that I can dial back using the tone knobs...rather than finding myself wishing that I had a little more brightness when the tone knob was already on 10. However, some guys say that the guitar gets too airy or looses its thickness with the aluminum bridge. That hasn't been my experience but everyone has their preferences. ![]() They're not vintage correct, but I figure that by the time I swap out the pots / caps / pups that the guitar has been modified enough at that point that who cares whether the bridge alloy is the vintage-correct zinc or aluminum. Believe me when I tell you that you wouldn't believe how light a Pigtail aluminum ABR is. I mean, it's practically weightless in the palm of your hand. Remarkable. Again, I can only speak for me but the aluminum Pigtail ABR is a mandatory install on any LP that I bring in.

Re: Pigtail aluminium abr1
Tried Pigtail aluminum ABR and aluminum saddles on my EDS-1275. I thought it was a wee bit too much of a good thing. Felt the guitar lost something - its girth, so to speak.
Definitely NOT saying its a bad thing, just another flavour of good - of which only your ear can be the judge. YMMV!!! |

Re: Pigtail aluminium abr1
After some time now with my Pigtail ABR`d EMCT Kit, the Pigtail tho nice, the adjustment screws loosen and rattle. Sort of a pita. I have tried to gently get them tight without having the saddle move. Same thing. Hoping I can find a way to quiet the saddle screws. I really love this bridge otherwise.

Re: Pigtail aluminium abr1
The shroeder isn't an ABR-1 replacment. John, I tried the Callaham ABR-1 replacment, which is cold rolled steel with brass saddles. The clarity on my R8 improved greatly, added alot of depth to the low end, with no hint of mud.

Re: Pigtail aluminium abr1
I'm considering the callaham - partly because this is the one that Charlie Chandlers in the uk stock and I am considering getting them to do me a fret dress and fit the bridge at the same time.
The Nashville is my last piece of chrome hardware so my LPs makeover will be complete when I swap it out for a nickel bridge and I have heard great things about the callaham abr-1. |
