New wiring finished

I finally finished my new wiring on my LP. This picture is before the wiring.
I didn't realize that my neck pick up was on all the time. You can see that the hot wire is not soldered to the volume.
BEFORE

This is the 50's wiring with the .022 vitamin Q's and 300k tone pots
After

I had the 500k pots but I didn't like the brightness so I changed the tone pot
to 300k. I also wired the guitar modern style first but I wasn't satisfied with the sound so I went 50's style and it turned out better. It really did open up my pup's. But now there is quite a bit of tone and volume change when I go below 7 (not muddy) but the volume and tone swell is not smooth. Any suggestions? Could it be because the 300k tone pots now where the original volume pots.
Thanks to all the past replies to my posts. I could not have done this otherwise. Thanks!

Re: New wiring finished

Thanks man. When I hear the guitar now I finally feel like I have a Les Paul. Do you have any idea why my volume and tone knob won't sweep from 10 to 1 smoothly.

Re: New wiring finished

Sounds like your describing a linear pot, they dont have a smooth roll on like a logarithmic/audio taper pot... try a search for pots here on the forums as well as a google on log vs linear pots... lots and lots of good info to be had...

Re: New wiring finished

Ozone,

I do believe the volumes pots where linear taper. If you found the 500k tone pots too bright you can turn them down to read 300K (usually around 7 on the knob). This way you have more tone to work with and if you need a brighter sound for something you have it.

Just my .02
