jonesy's treble bleed kit - oh my!

So I tried a pair of jonesy's treble bleed sets in my Les Paul. What a revelation that was. Does what it says on the label (figuratively, natch) - turn the knob down and it just gets quieter, that's it. The volume knob truly acts as a volume knob now.

And I guess that can be a bit of a trade-off. Recently, I've grown to be slightly more adept at using the volume knob to shape the tone in as much as I use the tone knob to achieve the same. With the bleed kits installed, one say that I've "simplified" by relegating all tone shaping to the tone knob only, not a combination of volume and tone.

I think it's been a nice mod so far. Now I'll need to see just how much volume adjusting I really do.

That's cool what LP guitar did those bleed kits go into, any pics? They seem to work best with the modern wiring as they are not really needed with the 50's wiring. Glad to hear you have nice volume taper now.

Re: jonesy's treble bleed kit - oh my!

No pics, I'm afraid. I put them in my Les Paul Studio which sports 490R and 498T pickups, RS Superpots and RS Audio Taper pots, wired up '50s style. I tested it side-by-side with my other Les Paul which also sports identical RS pots, also wired '50s style, and the roll-off difference was quite noticeable. Like I said, the one with the treble bleed kits truly just gets quieter when the volume knobs gets rolled down, whereas the one without the kits does alter the tone when the knob gets turned down. The one without the kit is like having 1.5 tone knobs per pickup, as opposed to just the one.

Cool, sounds like you have done some tinkering and side by side comparison. Nice job!
