I was debating on whether or not to post it, but his tone is so incredible in that video. I'm a SRV junkie After I saw that video I was checking out used Marshall Majors, until I saw what they're selling for these days

200w of pure tube power
If you ever get one i want a demo without any attenuator/hotplate and i wanīt it cranked
I think SRV had 1 Fender Deluxe Reverbe, not 100% sure about that name on the Fender.
Then he another amp, setting one clean and the other one with a overdrive.

By the way i think Yngwie Malmsteen might be using the "Majors".
He takes some Marshall amps and put them in his garage then cranks them and have it all wired up to the studio

Yngwie's a 50w kind of guy...

Major's don't stay working for very long--they have a tendency to catch on fire...

Re: Blues guitarists to listen to, to get in to playing blues seriously ???

Anything with Peter Green on it
The first three John Mayall's Bluesbreakers albums ( with Eric Clapton, A Hard Road, and Crusade)
Mike Bloomfield (Super Session, the live adventures discs)
Allman Bros (Filmore East, Ludlows Garage, Atlanta International Pop Festival)
Muddy Waters ( Chess Box)
Howlin Wolf ( Live n Cookin at Alices)
there are tons more but these will point you in the right direction

Check out Michael Burks for some serious Les Paul blues. He has been around for about 10 years but is not that well known. His album "Iron Man" is great, not a bad song on there.

Re: Blues guitarists to listen to, to get in to playing blues seriously ???

Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac, all of the albums, plus the live album, recorded in the United States. Mike Bloomfield and Al Cooper -- both the supersession already mentioned but there's another also. Mike Bloomfield also did a neat album for Guitar Player -- instructional -- but incredible. Of course his stuff with Butterfield.

For me Green and Bloomfield are the best white guys in blues from the 60s. Though, the stuff Mick Taylor did on Exile, Sticky, Let it Bleed and Beggar's is pretty outstanding also.

Although I like Bloomfield I find him a bit anxious sometimes... almost always a little bit ahead of the beat.
