Caps. for my Paul
I just bought a used 2008 Goldtop Elitist. What a great guitar. I was doing some research and I can't find too much information on the pickups that are already in it. It appears for the most part they are 490 + 498's. They sound good but I was wondering would the guitar sound better if I put '57 Classics in it or possibly Burstbuckers?
Some guys on the other forum said that my best bet would be to change the caps. It's a pretty cheap mod that will benefit me. What values should I get? I read somewhere that Sprague Vitamin Q are the way to go. Any tips? My goal is to make this the best guitar that I can. I would say the music I play is more classic rockish through a Fender Princeton Reverb with a few pedals. Similar to Who, Zeppelin, Doobie Brothers. |

Re: Caps. for my Paul
get in touch w/ Jonesy... some Qs or very similar PIO like General Inst. would be great for that guitar. He's selling some reliced PIO that not only sound great they look full of mojo too.
About pickups... there are many great pickups. For the price of some Burstbuckers get in touch with KevinT here ( www.guitarforcepickups.com ) and he'll offer a boutique set wound just for you for almost off-the-shelf pickup price. Miss it at your peril. http://cgi.ebay.com/Relicd-Aged-Vint...item1c0d8358fb

Re: Caps. for my Paul
OK, so I'm going to get the caps.
Thanks for the info about Kevin T. I just got in touch with him and we're ironing out what will work best for me. Is it worth it to change out pots or wiring? Last edited by Rexfordbridge; 10-29-2009 at 10:17 PM. |
