Multi/Rack Effects Recommendation?
Hi Folks. I'm hoping to get some opinions/recommendations for a multi-effects unit. The unit can be in rack or floorboard form, but I need some pretty specific requirements to be met. Please keep in mind that I have not looked at this type of gear for at least 10 years, so I'm sure that there's a lot of stuff available that I'm not aware of.
I don't use a lot of effects most of the time, but I'm pretty specific about the ones I like. I'm looking for something that will do a good CE-1 type chorus (I'm using a Retro-Sonic right now), an Electric Misstress type flanger (I'm using an EHX), a MXR Phase 90 type phasor (I'm using the re-issue now), and some decent Reverbs, Delays, and Pitch Shifting (I'm using a RSP Intelliverb for these now). The other requirement is that the unit have a 100% wet output available as my Mesa/Boogie has a parallel effects loop. My goal is to simplify my setup, without losing any flexibility. I would like to have my volume, wah, and tuner going to the input of the amp and everything else coming from whatever effects unit I end up with. I would really appreciate any suggestions or input that anyone has. Thanks very much in advance for your help! |

Re: Multi/Rack Effects Recommendation?
I was in the same position as you, hadn't looked at or messed with rack gear in years. I gave it another shot, so I bought a few things used and dirt cheap. I am totally back to pedals now, much easier to deal with and tweak ANYTHING simply. But at least I have a rack that sits there and looks cool
Using as many effects as you say that you want, I think your sound quality will be better using pedals, and your overall tone won't be affected as much. When I was researching rack gear, I read good things about the G Major. What's your budget? You could pick up a BOSS GT-8 for cheaper these days. I haven't heard good things about the GT-10. I have the BOSS ME-50 but I don't use it anymore, sounds really good though.

Re: Multi/Rack Effects Recommendation?
Thanks for the responses folks! I would prefer to keep the cost at $500 or less. The only problem I would have with using pedals for everything is that I need to be able to program quite a few delay times...chorus/phase/flange I pretty much just get the sound I like and use it for everything.

Re: Multi/Rack Effects Recommendation?
Check out Digitech GSP1101 and the floor controller that goes with it, I use it in the studio a lot and it is incredible and versatile. It is a bit expensive but worth it's weight in gold, especially in the studio but I could definitely see using it live with a power amp and a couple of 4x12's.
