stereo rig, yes no poll
I used a stereo rig for a while but it was too much hassle for me and I thought that what I got from it was cool but not able to translate well in live situattion...your thoughts

Re: stereo rig, yes no poll
I used one for a while, too. It just became too much gear to lug around once my band started carrying our own sound system.

Re: stereo rig, yes no poll
I run a Mesa 4x12 in stereo with a rack rig live. It sounds great. Most of the bars I play are small, so my stage sound carries along with the mic'ed FOH.

Re: stereo rig, yes no poll
Small room I take 2 small amps and place them as far apart as cords (power/guitar) will allow.
Playing through a PA. One amp.

Re: stereo rig, yes no poll
I used a GK 250ML for years that was stereo and I really liked it. I plan on setting up a stereo rig with a couple of my current amps.

Re: stereo rig, yes no poll
Depends how you define it...
A "single" sound in Stereo (if you see what I mean) - as in left & right, stereo chorus, ping pong delay etc - gets lost very easily live. I used to do this but I gave up on it as too much hassle for too little reward. Two amps for blending - whether that's wet/dry fx, or clean/dirty - works really well & can make finding the sound really easy. YMMV

Re: stereo rig, yes no poll
Great for home or studio use with a stereo chorus and/or delay but I couldn't be stuffed lugging an extra amp around if I was gigging.

Re: stereo rig, yes no poll
I don't think I've ever played a club with a PA in stereo, so what's the point?
When I use 2 amps, I go clean/dirty...

Re: stereo rig, yes no poll
My thoughts exactly. It sounded great for my own amusement but too much hassle.

Re: stereo rig, yes no poll
I voted yes because as others have mentioned, often times "stereo" for me is really two different sounds or cab tones blending in the air. My old huge rig (which is now retired to beign a "studio" rig) was tri-amped. I could produce 3 independent sound sources, each tailored to whatever frequency response curve I wanted out of each cabinet. I ran it with 15's, 12's, and 10's, and the volume would favor one or more cabinet depending on what I was going for.
I use stereo effects too though, because the phasey, swooshiness of two speakers playing off of eachother with chorus or leslie does still translate. But creating a "stereo image" like you do in the studio definitely does not translate. |
