Wink I need a compressor, advice please

Hi people,

Ok, i need a compressor, maybe a pedal or an affordable rackmount, probbaly the former for price!

I am after a certain tone from it - real squishy and 'sweet' sounding

any suggestions?

cheers!

Re: I need a compressor, advice please

diamond compressor. very transparent, and not enormously expensive, considering how good it is. it has very similar qualities to a good rackmount compressor. another great compressor that was on my pedalboard for a bit was the bjfe pale/pine green compressor, but it's considerably more expensive. you can take the compression to more of an extreme with the bjfe. on the less expensive side of the spectrum, the barber tone press is excellent. had that one for a while too. the mix knob really lets you dial in the amount of effect nicely.

Re: I need a compressor, advice please

if your soldering savvy BYOC had 2 different compressor types. one very transparent, the other not so much. look for youtube videos to get the jist of them. they are sub $100 but they are just kits you need to put together. they also have a buy 3 get one free deal going on.

I haven't tried it with a guitar but the BBE Opto Stomp works pretty well with a bass and doesn't color the tone much.

+1 I've been gas'ing for a Keeley 4 knob for a while now, but in the meantime the MXR Dyna Comp is a sweet sounding pedal for a very good price. Definitely does squishy and sweet, very much in the vein of Dave Gilmour.

Re: I need a compressor, advice please

I have an analog man juicer, very nice...I would sayit is a bit heavy handed but very sweet...

I also have an old mxr....it is a little bit more transperent but it has a dirtyness too it that I like a lot...

I also have a EH soul preacher, I think that it is the smoothest out of the three...

I do not have a ross comp but people really swear by them (trey of phish uses the ross)....

I tend to favor my mxr for a slightly rougher sound and my EH for a cleaner sound...... the juicer is a bit too much for me but, I have been using it latly and it is nice

This man knows what he's talking about !

While most compressors squish the heck out of everything, the Barber allows you to use it parallel, so you can blend in the amount of squash over the natural sound.
It's the only one I use.
