how would i rewire my semi hollow body?

my epi casino is an incredible guitar i have made no modifications to it what so ever but i when i'm playing her i never fiddle with the controlls because i can never get it to sound how i want it, its a 65 reissue and i'm wondering if i should leave it the way it is or rewire it 50's style with indipendant vol controles. can i get some advice on this allong with how i would get the pots out in order to make the wiring changes

Re: how would i rewire my semi hollow body?

Best thing to do is check with the people at Mojo.
They are very helpful and will guide you as to what is involved and the best way to do it.
I ordered 2 sets from them 1 for my LP and 1 for my 335, it's a little tricky with the 335, getting all the pots aligned but in about 1 hour it was done and what a difference.

i got it done myself all i had to do was study the wiring and see where each led to and it was an easy switch it works great no buzzez no cold solder joints nothing, i love the indipendant vol controles.

it helps just to study where all the wires lead to and even make a quick digram.

Re: how would i rewire my semi hollow body?

I always draw a quick sketch of the wiring when I work on mine, that way if I'm interrupted I can go back w/o problems, gladd all is well on your update

Long pairs of Hemostats ( Surgical tools ) and tie string to the pots top after removing the washers ect before dropping em thru the holes with long string so you can pull them back into place easier thru the sound holes

Re: how would i rewire my semi hollow body?

I use heat shrink tubing to pull the pots back through. Get a long piece that just fits over the shaft (1/4"?), push it thru the hole for the pot, out the F hole, put it on the pot, apply a bit of heat, pull it thru and drop the washer and nut over the end of the tube. Finger tighten then cut off the heat shrink.

Re: how would i rewire my semi hollow body?

btw, in that Casino, I'd go with NOS .022 Black Beauties. They are cheaper than bees, and would probably have been stock in a '65 (that's what are stock in my 64 ES330)

That's nice to know, dwagar. I bumped this because I've got a cheap Agile on the way...and I plan on making it a project guitar. I'm contemplating the harness from Jonesey (if the guitar makes it in one piece, and it's playable)...and although I know it's not even a Dot, I'm gonna try to get it as close as possible to a 335 in terms of tone.

I have some Sprague Orange Drops I could slap into it, and I could probably run down to the store and get some pots, but will that be enough?

Also....long or short shafts on those?

Re: how would i rewire my semi hollow body?

I assume short shaft, it's a thin piece of wood they go through.
I'd check with Jonesy and see what he's got close to Black Beauties. ODs will be okay, but for not much more you can get (IMO) something better.
