Acoustic guitar finger squeaky...

Do you care if your fingers cause the strings to squeak on your acoustic guitar? I never really thought much of it until the wifey started pointing it out. Does the finger squeaking have to do with technique or is it just the nature of the beast? What can you do about it?

Re: Acoustic guitar finger squeaky...

IMHO it has more to do with technique than anything else.

Re: Acoustic guitar finger squeaky...

So it's a matter of not dragging your fingers along the strings? Does it bother you to hear that sound when someone else is playing?

It doesn't bother me - electric or acoustic. In fact I like it.

Re: Acoustic guitar finger squeaky...

I use this stuff called "Finger Ease". It can be found at most guitar stores. It's a spray on string lube. I've used it for years so I know it doesn't have any negative effects on my gear. It makes a huge difference for me, but for some reason I have never felt the need to use it on any electric guitar. Works wonders for acoustics though. I've heard SRV used the stuff, but that may just be rumor. I tried that fast fret stuff and I guess it cleaned the strings up a bit but I never noticed too much difference.

Re: Acoustic guitar finger squeaky...

classical guitarists worry about it more than anybody else. it can usually be minimized with proper technique. but if all else fails, if you go soak your hands, that helps. especially if you are recording. but its one of the things that every guitarist should like deep down.
