Are those the same as the "KGB Caps"?
Hi all
I'm searching for good caps for my epi. But as I don't want to pay more for the shipping than for the product itself, I'm looking for french seller, and I found this : Capacitor PIO Russe 0.047mF 160V, neuf, comme vitamin Q en vente sur eBay.fr (fin le 08-juil.-09 20:23:45 Paris) Does anyone knows those kind of caps? Are they the same than the famous tested "KGB Caps"? Thanks a lot for your help. |

Jonsey is the expert on this subject. It looks like a KGB but you can't read the markings on it from that picture.

Re: Are those the same as the "KGB Caps"?
Ok, got the confirmation by Jonesy. They are effectively KGB, but green "K-42 " ones. He recommended me "K-40" instead, warmer tone, better for the tone I want. I will buy directly from Jonesy, then

FYI the Russian caps I have tried are the K-40 silver case and the K-42 green case. The K-40's are very warm and have great Tone Qualities like the Bees & Vitamin Q's .
The K-42 series is a high temp mil spec cap that reads lower than .022 more like .018 and has a lot more mids and are a bit edgier than the K-40's. I actually heated the K-42's up and then they read closer to .022 as they were made to run in Hot areas. My pick for Blues and Classic Rock are the K-40's in the silver case as they are softer and more vocal. The K-42's may work better for a Metal or hard rock player? |

Re: Are those the same as the "KGB Caps"?
I put a set of giant green .022 ruskie PIO caps in my new Frebird V.
It did help to mellow out the ice pick treble bridge pickup. A lilttle blurry, but you get the idea: ![]() I'll have to look and see if they are either discussed in this thread. |
