Feedback?

Hey, I was looking to minimize feedback when I play. A lot of times if I use an OD Pedal, and stop playing, it sounds like a harmonic is being played and constantly gets louder, also if I kneel infront of my amp to change a setting it gets really loud too. Anyway to stop this from happening?

Re: Feedback?

That's not really feedback in the traditional sense... but more of a squeal from microphonics. Usually happens in really high gain situations, or with lots of boost in the chain. Is this happening at the club or only at home?

Re: Feedback?

It's in our practice area, that's when I play my loudest.

Mmm....You can try stuffing the pickup cavities of your guitar so the pickups are more stable and shift around a bit less....but if that doesn't work, you may have to dial back the amount of gain or crunch that you're using.....or you might have to move your amp to another location when you practice so the guitar's less prone to feedback...

(yeah yeah...I know...just stuff to consider that don't cost nothin' )

Re: Feedback?

If the 'harmonic' is no relation to what is being played, but just a feedback tone, it is almost certainly the pickups going microphonic. Apart from cramming the pu cavities with foam, you could try removing the pu covers (if it has any) as that might solve it.

If you stand in front of an amp, with a OD pedal 'on', and your Volume control on your guitar open (not on "zero"), and you are not playing, what you describe above is what happens.

Turn off the f-cking pedal.

DUHHHHH turn off the OD when your not using it! Simple!

I have this nasty ass distortion pedal on my board, noisy as hell. Whenever someone plays on my rig they punch it in hand mute the strings while they try to talk to me. Its obnoxious as hell.

Once again kick it off when not in use!

Re: Feedback?

Yeah easy way to stop that bro, there is a knob on my guitar marked volume. I just turn it all the way down when I don't want my guitar making any of those crazy noise's, when gain is up guitars do that sort of thing.

When I kneel in front of my 4x12 cabinet with gain up, and volume wide open it is usually so I can Pull some Jimi style controlled feedback

Re: Feedback?

You could get adventurous and dip your pickups in hot wax like Eddie Van Halen did. Look at the sound HE got.
