The original crybaby is still a great pedal, mine does not have the true bypass according to slowhand. I love the sweep and Tone, IMO it has more Tone-Mojo than one you would buy off the shelf at GC. I actually plugged my Les Paul Special into tonight and jammed out on a little practice amp I keep in my shop. Really thick Tone with the humbuckers, it's a sweet wah. There are lot's of wah mods nd tricks and I hope to learn a few here on the other wah that is on the way.

No, its not. But do you hear a volume drop when you step on it or a noticeable loss of tone when you have it in the chain?

Yeah just a tiny drop in vol. when kicked on but seems like all the crybaby's I have used in the last 25 years have been that way. No loss of Tone and it is my only pedal, I normally just plug right into the amp otherwise.

I have another Crybaby on the way, not sure what year but I want you to help me mod it. it is missing the vol pot.

Missing the pot? well, you can go several ways with that. You can replace it with the stock HotPotz II 100K pot (standard in Vox and Dunlop Wahs) or you can get one of the many other replacement pots that are out there. Dunlop even makes a 470K version but unless your into high gain stuff, this is useless to you.

Since your into the same stuff I am, a good CTS Icar 100K will fix you right up. Besides the other mods I'm gonna hook you up with of course...

Re: I Love My Crybaby Wah, Do You?

It's a late 70's/Early 80's version before they added the power adaptor

...but I have NEVER seen that inductor before!

I wonder what the hell that is?! I'm fairly sure that is not factory since I have never seen that before. Most of the ones from that era come with the stack of dimes (whats pictured in the wah I posted earlier) or TDK Inductor. A few even had a green Fasel.

In the photo you took, that would be the black cylinder looking thing in the upper left of the PCB. That is NOT stock so you might have something unusually special there. For that model, it should look like the picture I posted yesterday or this TDK...

Based on the picture, everything else looks stock though

As much as I loved my crybaby when I first got it, the Area 51 upgrade made it 1000 times better.

Re: I Love My Crybaby Wah, Do You?

jonesy,I purchased that pedal "used" from the Sam Goody in Raleigh NC the summer before I started high school....the inductor could have been swapped out,I have only changed batteries in it over the years..I did adjust the sweep to make it a little "sweeter"...the only reason I quit using it was that I purchased a Snarling Dogs Wonder Wah II that replicated the sound of "White Room" almost identically(and I just had to have it,haha). I never really noticed a really detrimental volume or tone loss, being that it's not true bypass..I just prefer to keep my vintage stuff out of bars and parties we play at..I did at one time also own a Crybaby 535Q,and was never really satisfied with it(after playing the one you now have you should understand why)..I do know that there are ways to make it true bypass..but I didn't fell like doing that to a pedal that old....I hope you enjoy it for years to come!

Re: I Love My Crybaby Wah, Do You?

It's going to practice with me tomorrow and I know my bass player and drummer will be digging it for sure. We just booked a gig for Valentines day, it's on a Saturday night. We don't play out much and I am stoked to get out and jam in front of a live crowd.

$140 plus shipping. It's a complete kit. Board, Jacks, switch...everything. Drop in, no soldering required. The entire wah from them is $200.

And they do sound sweet!

Hey man, if it works and sounds great, thats all that matters!

Are there any sort of marking on that thing? Kinda curious to see what it is...
