From my limited usage so far, I would say not. If top wrapping really does decrease the required bending force, it would only make them about even. These Pure Blues I just put on do NOT feel like 9's. They just don't quite feel like 10's. I would bet that even de-tuned 1/2 step, they would still only be about as bendable as 9's.

And welcome to MLP!

Re: Why You Should Try Pure Nickel Strings

I'm starting to really love these Pyramid Gold's 12 gauge, but man they are killing my fingers lol.

How did y'all set up the intonation on the G string? I ran out of room for the saddle, did y'all flip the saddle?

Re: Why You Should Try Pure Nickel Strings

I tried some DR's and the wrap split on the frets, causing the outer wrap to slide back and forth on the inner core. No bueno. Has this happened to anyone else? This was after about two weeks of play. Maybe a me problem?

Re: Why You Should Try Pure Nickel Strings

After a bit of time with my first set of pure nickels (DR Blues), I do like them quite a bit, but I cannot go up a gauge (to 10-46). The unwound strings, especially the third, may be slinkier than the same size in steel (I didn't compare), but they are not as slinky as the size I'm used to (9-46). I do a lot of bending, and I'm not up for getting used to the difference.

Re: Why You Should Try Pure Nickel Strings

Well, this comment applies to my guitars, amp, and rack gear only. But DR Pure Blues in 9 - 42 sound enormous. I play a mix from jazz to mellow to blues to classic rock to screaming metal, and these strings sure do it for me. The only reason I can see (from my perspective) to go to any heavier strings in the DR Pure Blues line would be feel and not sound.

Gibson Vintage Reissue Pure Nickel (10-46) are superb in my opinion. By far the best strings I have tried to date, for both tone, feel, everything, they are just amazing.

I love em !!! took a bit to justify the $$$ but they're very much worth it in sound and longevity for me.

Re: Why You Should Try Pure Nickel Strings

Well, I tried the DR Blues in two different gauges, the 10's and the 11's. Used them exclusively for 6 months, on a Gibson ES-335 '59 Reissue and a Gibson SG '61 Reissue.Sorry to say that I won't buy any more. I've had numerous problems with dullness right out of the package and intonating problems on the more-than-occasional wound string. So, I'm selling the remainder of my stock. I've got 2 sets of 10's and 7 sets of 11's for sale. Selling as a package, not separately.
