Eq's in a band

This is a bit confusing question, but here is it. When guitars have scooped mids, does it mean the bass guitar has to boost the mids, to hear the bass guitar properly?

The bass player always turns up the volume when he gets lost in the mix. They're just as stubborn as guitar players.
