Measuring the value of a capacitor

Hello,

I'm fairly handy with a multimeter, but I still cannot figure out how to measure to TRUE value of a capacitor. Any tips or tricks that could point me in the right direction?

I don't think the average meter can measure the value ,mine don't
I use an LCR meter for that

Re: Measuring the value of a capacitor

What kind of caps?
Most/user multimeters will not reed very low capacitance values such as a "tone" cap.
If the cap you're trying to measure is within the range of your multimeter you shouldn't have any kind of trouble.

Re: Measuring the value of a capacitor

It depends on the multimeter.

The less expensive ones won't read capacitance. The more expensive ones will.

Otherwise you need a separate meter to do the job.

Re: Measuring the value of a capacitor

If your meter has a setting for capacitance just select the correct (uf) range and hook up your test leads to the cap and your good to go but not all meters have a setting to test caps.

Both of my other multimeters have a setting for caps as well as volts, resistance, etc. this little meter just tests capacitance.
