My "Electrics" Project.
In 2009, Epiphone managed to do a run of Dot 335's that bore the "Epiphone Custom Shop" label. That may mean that someone in the USA looks in a case to make sure there is a guitar in there, but, you can find glowing reviews of these guitars all over. So, I got one-a mint one from a vendor here for a very fair consideration. As with most "f" hole semi-hollows, it has a mellow tone(edit:compounded by econo electrics). But, a Gibson Dot 335 produced the lead guitar in Cream's "Crossroads." What could I do?
I am very comfortable with soldering and wiring but I have remarked that I had a desire to call upon a member vendor besides RS. RS has met their promises of quality, so it is just a spread the opportunity situation I decided to go with Jonesy and my plan was to do whatever he advised. Based on many reviews, I was looking at Z-90's from Harmonic design(and a couple of their posters to cheer up the interior design of my little house). But, all of the specs were in Jonesy's hands and ears. As a result, it will be one of his premium harnesses, assembled by him, and Sheptone HB compatible P-90 type pickups. I hope to be able to video or still photo my efforts to squeeze all of this past those "f" holes without destroying my guitar's perfect finish.Jonesy has a method a bit different from Billy's. I will update when the surgery starts. If any of you have experience with similar change-outs I would enjoy hearing comments. YES-I am going to buy the two posters-there are some things that cannot be left to others and I have my flexibility limits! |
