Greatest wah wah sound ever..... Slash haters beware :)

fast forward to 4:45,

one of the best wah sound I ever heard. The system he was using was a EMB audio rack mounted wah system. It was made in the 80's by a one man company. He made only a handful of these, mostly from what I've read custom ordered by guys like Kirk Hammet, Steve Vai, Slash etc.
I just came across this interesting Facebook page, someone in collaboration with the original designer and maker of these wah systems is getting ready to reproduce an unknown number of this wah system. Check it out.

I really liked the tone just before the wah bit. very clear, almost single-coil...

split-coil?? 50s wiring with vol turned down?

He's playing a 87 Lp Standard with SD alnico II's, probably standard wiring I guess, going through a Marshall jubilee modified with kt88 for the clean sound.

I can't tell you how many times I have watched this whole solo over and over. My roommate in college and I used to watch this every night as we sunk into couch, chair, floor, wherever right before we cashed out. Love Love Love the tone of this! That whole concert is well worth buying on DVD. I think we have bought it 2 or 3 times

Slash was also one of the 4-5 players that actually got me into playing guitar and worshipping Les Pauls at the same time. And I think it's very hard to disagree that he got one of the best wah sounds of all time. His work on ''Civil War'' and ''Sweet Child'' really stands out.

I remember getting my own copy of AFD (cassette) straight from a friend who had two copies bought inthe USAF base in Southern Spain before being offcially available. Loved its raw, gritty, almost lofi swagger.

Use your illusion was too serious for me.

Re: Greatest wah wah sound ever..... Slash haters beware :)

Thanks for the cool words guys! We are planning on releasing a very small amount of reissue systems using several original circuit boards. After those are gone, we will have a Redesigned system available. This might have additional/new features, but also will have the same Slash/Hammett wah tone as the originals.

If anyone has any questions, feel free to get ahold of us!

Kirk actually used the same system as Slash, from about 1992 to 2002

Myles covered greatly, and Slash dug it. Awesome performance.

And what, a little Jimi on the end ... epic!

Agreed. Myles Kennedy is Slash's ideal frontman in my opinion. Check out the performance of "Nothing to say" from the same concert where he also plays guitar - epic stuff!

*SPOILER*

Slash + Les Paul + Floyd Rose = EPICNESS!

Those red dunlop slash wahs are freakin hot, next to the Area 51 and 18V 535Q, the slash wah is one my fav wahs, more of a modern - non-quack filter, it quacks but not like the other two i mentioned, just smooth inductance!! I recommend

Not sure if he is using one there though, slash is pretty cool

At least, you can clearly see it in many shots from the same gig

He's actually using his modified dunlop 2SR rack wah, the pedal itself is just the sw95 shell. It is modified to include the distortion circuit found in his signature pedal.

BTW, checkout slash playing civil war from 1992, using an EMB Audio remote wah:

The Slash and Hammett wah sound has always been my favourite. Too bad the reissue is a whopping 600 euro/ 840$!!

Great showcase of Hammett's wahwah sound:

Re: Greatest wah wah sound ever..... Slash haters beware :)

Keep in mInd the origInal systems sold over 20 years ago for $700/800 though. That would be well over $1000 with inflation today and many of the parts are VERY difficult to obtain today. That's why a redesigned system will be released.

Also, you may want to keep an eye out for a standalone pedal version down the road =)

I have a crybaby from the late 70's early 80's. somewhere around there... And a buddy of mine has a "newer" crybaby that says Original crybaby or something like that. Mine sounds thinner and more trebly then his does why is this? Also everytime i use mine it picks up strange radio talk shows and blasts them threw my amp...

Hahah, sorry, just had a vision of someone flying into the civil war solo, pressing the wah and being greeted by "hello and you're listening to BBC radio 2!".
