Which artist defines tone for you?
Tone... It needs no explanation because I dont think there is a definitive one anyways lol... But, if you had to pick one artist that defined your idea of perfect tone who would it be?
For me it would have to be Mike Bloomfield. YouTube - "Stop" Al Kooper & Mike Bloomfield (Super Session) YouTube - Mike Bloomfield: Drinking Wine Live!!

Re: Which artist defines tone for you?
I have to say that for me, Duane's tone on the Fillmore album is about as close to perfect as you can get, but I am beginning to really like the sound of Warren Haynes' rig. It has a bit more bite than old Skydog, but it really sings.

Re: Which artist defines tone for you?
The list would be too long. Whether it's every time they plug in or for one particular song, the list would include a wide variety of "that's it!" kinds of tone ranging from squeaky clean to raging gain.
No rules. Just good.

Re: Which artist defines tone for you?
I also can't say just one.
Duane, Bloomfield, Green are the main ones for me right now.

Re: Which artist defines tone for you?
As others have said, it isn't so much the artist as the sound on a particular record or a point in their career. I'm big on Kossoff in Free (not so crazy about other things he did). I also love Clapton during the Beano era and early Cream, but not so much the later wah, wah and buzzy overdrive stuff. I also love Warren Haynes, but am really partial to the sound he got on the last Mule CD and some of the really early Mule. It was a little rawer in many ways. I love the cover of the Beatles song She Said and the sound he had on that song.
I would also add a couple of other names to the mix--Marc Ford (but not really his stuff with the Crowes) and Lee Roy Parnell. Mark
