Post For anyone wanting a new nut for their Vintage V100

After some research looking for a simple replacement for the very poor stock nut on my Vintage V100 I got one of these Graphtech tusq nuts:

Graphtech TUSQ Nut Slotted 1/4" Epiphone
Part number: PQ-6060-00

Simple fit, a fair bit of sanding to get it the right level. Comes with excellent instructions on what height the high and low E strings should be from the top of the first fret in order to maintain proper intonation. So I grabbed a set of feeler gauges and some sandpaper. An hour later and its made a really massive improvement. Serious improvement in sustain and a better tone quality now.

I also mailed JHS to get the dimensions for a nut if anyone wants to carve their own bone nut. The dimensions for a V100 nut blank: 42mm X 6mm X 8mm.

I personally wouldn't want to cost for the tools or the work to get a bone nut right. The pre-cut grooves in the tusq nut are perfect.

Hope this helps folks

EDIT: I am in no way affiliated to any company, I posted this as I thought it may help some others wanting to improve the tone easily on their V100's

Vintage V100 upgrades: update

Just in case anybody comes across this thread and is looking to do the same as me and upgrade the electronics in the Vintage V100, the stock p/u are single wire only so are not suitable for coil spliting etc.

Re: For anyone wanting a new nut for their Vintage V100

I have a friend who put a Dimarzio 36th anniversary PAF in the bridge of his V100 and it made a huge improvement. He ordered a neck one and is going to put it in this weekend. Did you upgrade your electronics?

If you're referring to my post, then yes I did with the LPKIT02 I got from Axetec (hence the need for new pickups as well). Don't ask me what everything sounds like yet though as I'm waiting to get it back from my tech.
