50's wiring doesn't cut it

Greets,

I have an '07 Standard with CV Guitars "Manalishi" pickups. If your'e not familiar with him, he does what I would call the best Peter Green mod available. His pickups are custom-made for this purpose, with un-equal windings, etc.

He also incorporates the 50's wiring w/Orange Drop caps. My issue is, while the 50's wiring is great at reducing high end roll-off, I have the opposite problem. I go down below about 7 or 8 and all I have are highs. Instead of a nice, even roll-off, it rolls off all the lows and I end up with a bright sound, with no bottom end. Any ideas on how to resolve this? I'd just like a nice even volume reduction. You'd think after 50+ years this issue would be resolved, but evidently not.

(it rolls off all the lows and I end up with a bright sound, with no bottom end) I've head this before and was thinking there has to be an anwser. Has anyone ever tried 50's wiring on the neck PUP and Modern on the bridge PUP. Why wouldn't it work like this. It's not very noticable on the neck PUP but with the bridge PUP it sounds to thin with no bottom no matter were you set the volume. Playing with both PUP together sound good but with just the bridge PUP I would say it's way to thin. I'm no tech but if each PUP has it's own volume and tone control why couldn't it be done just to see. Why does both PUP's have to be the same.

try different caps? Paper in oil seem to be the best. all of my guitars are way dark before they 50's wiring and even after the low end is still there. However...I hardly ever roll back tone/volume knobs...10 all the time.

What cap values did he use? You could use bigger caps to retain more of the lows.

Re: 50's wiring doesn't cut it

One way is to set the amp up to sound good with the guitar on 9 or so, then when you roll it off it won't get so bright.

You can certainly have modern wiring on the bridge, and 50's on the neck if desired, though 50's wiring is best for people who use their volume and tone controls a lot, and don't just leave everything on "10". You can roll off the tone with the volume as well to control brightness etc.

If you like to be on "10" a lot of the time, then modern wiring is likely better for you, plus you can always add a treble bleed if need be.

It's all personal preference...
