Question Tone choke and notch filter in an Esquire Pics

Here is a pic of the wiring in the Esquire. 5 way rotary switch, notch filter and true bypass wired up with a Kent Armstrong TC1 Tone choke that is activated by the 500k push pull that is a master volume. That's all wired up to a Zhangbucker 9.5K Tele bridge pu that is really Fat and punchy.

I use this Esquire a lot for open tuning and slide work and this set-up will let me get a huge variety of Tones out of one pu. The rotatory has 3 fixed wah setting s and woman Tone setting as well as a bypass. I have the Tone choke wired up so it cut's out the lows and some of the mids and between that and the rotary there are lot's of interesting Tones.

Haven't had any time to make a video or sound clips but I hope to soon.

Not a bad idea Jonsey, you always find a way to surprise me

I noticed you use ceramic caps for fixed wah, but in this one there are 3 different brands at different values? And the Tone choke is a new one. What is that black cylinder

Very cool jonesy, cant wait to hear it

Thanks Mook, glad you like it and I know you do a bit of tinkering yourself so thought you might find it interesting.

All the caps you see in that last pic are the filters on the rotary switch. The fixed wah ones are farirly low values .001 .0025 .005 and are the ceramics and the shiny case you see is a Sprague .015 Vitamin Q for the woman Tone.

The Black Cylinder is the Kent Armstrong TC1 Tone choke

Sweet, any reason you used different brand names for the ceramic caps, or is it just that what you had in those values, just curious as i've not tried many ceramics (found them to bitey for tone pots) and am wondering if different companies make for different tone even at the same value?

Just different brands that I have acquired in the various sizes I use. As far as the ceramics go I have found that they are a little edgier than pio caps but still have a nice mid-curve tone.

Also Remember each cap is wired up as if tone pot was rolled all the way off so it it cutting the amount of high frequencies as it can the way I have them wired up.

Thank you Sir. I have been tinkering around with this project since last November and finally got everything dialed in how I wanted it.

Awesome crunch tone
Some of the darker crunch tones actually reminded me of John Lords Hammond organ in Lazy with Deep Purple

Thanks! Between the Tone Choke and the Notch Filter it really does shift the Peak Frequencies around quite a bit. Interesting comparison to the organ Tone, Deep Purple Machine Head was the first Rock album I ever bought

I don't know how to multi-quote...

Jonesy : Machine Head still rocks, it's timeless to me
Hilario : John Lords Hammond tone is amazing, hard to describe it with words.

I really wanna try this on my Strat.
I think the 0,005 was my favourite.

Sounds great, Jonesy too bad I already ordered a rig for my bass, I'd bet some of that circuitry would work well on a 4 string too

Thanks Ben!

BTW You can do the notch filter switch and load coil for a bass but you use a different set of cap values. I haven't actually built that J-Bass rig with the push pull for you yet so if you want to make a change on your order shoot me a PM or an email and we can work something out.
