pup probem

how can i tell if my pick-up is goosed or if it's the selector switch.
i fitted a Dimarzio at the bridge a few years back and it suddenly stopped working, ie, no sound.....
i have a five way selector, four work fine it's when i switch to the bridge i get nothing.....the funny thing is though when i tap it with a screwdriver or something i can hear it fine through the amp,
help please...

Re: pup probem

Check your solder joints, Stevie. It will most likely be a cold or broken solder joint on the switch. If it's not a Switchcraft/CRL/Oak Grigsby switch then it might be faulty.

I very much doubt the pickup has blown or anything like that.

Re: pup probem

Easiest way to check a pup, if you don't have a multimeter, is to hook it up to a jack, plug it in and then tap on the pole pieces with a screwdriver or some other metal object, you'll hear it through the amp if you're pickup works.

And Switchcraft switches break, I just replaced one.

Some member comes here asking for help, a simple question, and this guy jumps in for the sale. Amazing.

Re: pup probem

when i run a screw driver over the pole pieces i can hear it through the amp clear as day, the pup appears to be working fine, but i'm still not getting any sound when the switch is set to that pick-up.....strange one
