Re: Eric Johnson Gear Tour & Sound Check

That was a very cool video thanks for posting. I thought it was funny that no matter how much "hendrix" type gear he uses, he still sounds like Eric Johnson. Great tone!

How on earth does he remember what goes where and what is on / off every given moment...?

I was thinking the same thing. For a person that is known for being anal about his sound, wouldn't he want to clean that pedal board up with some shorter cables etc. Just looked like a mess there.

I'm sure all the pieces on his pedal board are strategically placed for optimum tone. Symmetrical lines add too much bass.

Joking aside that is basically what he says. He positions the pedals to reduce noise from the others, & even goes so far as to put one up on a block of wood (although I did hear a rumour that was because he had a bad back & couldn't bend down to adjust the knobs )

I see tone enhancing elastic band is gone from the fuzz face, maybe they don't make them like they used to.

Here's a song off his new album
MMMusic - Eric Johnson - Austin (featuring Jonny Lang) - SoundCloud

Re: Eric Johnson Gear Tour & Sound Check

The only reason I can think he might have so many long chords between pedals is maybe he is using the "crazy" audiophile theory for Home Theater systems. A lot of people that install home theater systems will run all the wires the same length even if the speaker is 2 feet or 20 feet away. That way the signals travel the same distance and there is no issues with phasing. I have no idea why this would be necessary for a single signal for guitar, but maybe Eric knows something that we don't. He certainly plays better than all of us I am sure. LOL

I think it's for the extra capacitance, it takes away some of the treble.
