Maybe I'm crazy...

but, I've been a wanting higher action lately. I don't know if I'm playing harder or what, but lower strings are less comfortable. This baffles me since I've been on a quest for the lowest possible action since the mid 90's.

Have I lost it?

IMHO, no, you probably are doing something more then you used to, that would be facilitated by having a bit higher action...like string bending...

Re: Maybe I'm crazy...

Everybody was chasing lower action back in the day. It was a shredder mentality, if I remember right.

I find myself more comfortable with the action raised a bit from as low as I can get it without buzzing.

My shred days a far behind me! I have mellowed a lot since then, musically. Maybe it's that Im trying a more bluesy approach now days and trying to have better phrasing.

makes sense to me, why you would want a bit higher action...

Not at all. I prefer my action a little higher than most player because I play harder than most players (not that that's a good thing). I have one guitar that has very low action and doesn't rattle when I play it and it's a Peavey Vandenberg; all the rest are Gibsons, Fenders and some others and I have to keep the action a little higher on those or they rattle.

Yeah, it seems that gain is inversely proportional with years

The less gain and the lower the action you dig more into strings and there so more fret buzz. that's a problem and blessing of the lover gain setting, you just trying to express more with less gain and more dynamics.
Also, it is the time of shifting seasons for north hemisphere so folks check your neck relief and truss rod

Not for me. I'm forty-three years old, been playing for around thirty years and we play some songs where I use gonzo amounts of gain.
