Re: Devil's workshop
Nice way to start holidays is to read a book, but even better if you are bookmatched with a book. My book is about clouds and air and i like to start reading from middle...middle is fine cause you burst into something and you try to reconstruct the begining by guessing while reading toward end, thats fun! But I wont show you middle of the book, midlle of the book is down underneath and you are reading from the covers. So...all you see is covers and you have to guess bookmatched middle. Guess it's fun to read from front and back cover too!
mdubya recomended #1st reading so there she goes ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: Devil's workshop
Beautiful! Love the top... Is there a purpose to the mahogany sandwich or was that due to the blank thickness being short?

It's illusion of mahogany sandwich it's just router mark which will be sanded. It happened that I couldn't find long router bit (lost in my workshop mess) so used shorter and after that I used zero router ( bit with bearing ) to finish, so it looks like two passes or sandwich. |

Where do we stopped... ah Kitty !
![]() The top is coming slowly, I used Scott's templates but modded them. my drawing is taken from vintage '54 LP which had different body outline... slightly different horn, center line and longer butt. ![]() What the hell he is singing about? Last edited by Mouse; 08-18-2011 at 09:00 PM. |

Re: Devil's workshop
Thanks, it's eastern maple top. Don't know about burst color shade yet (maybe old cherry brandy) but seems like bare wood oxidize fast after sanding... I might use that effect to get old look, with nitro dyes I have in workshop it should look nice, we'll see

Re: Devil's workshop
Another way to do binding route.... pin is on the table and all you have to do is to move router to adjust the routing distance once the the side of guitar is at right angle. I do it with the very sharp spiral router bit which minimize chance of tearing up which is common scenario with curly maple.
![]() ![]() Binding channel is nice and clean ![]() Heating gun, acetone and we are done for today, binded kitty ![]()

Re: Devil's workshop
Some more fun on KCFX 101 ! Yeah baby
Don't listen to me, I didnt take my drugs. Whatsoever a neverthanless I been working on top a little ![]() ![]() I'll show you how I do it, it's all backwards. First thing first, we must take care of the top and near finish it cause we don't want to sand over pickup holes. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Then the template is done in clear plexiglass. You can do the former template in thin MDF or similar and then copy it on the thicker plexi with zero router bit ... ![]() ![]() Voila! Nice and clean ![]() How it's done? I always vote for simple but effective solutions.
