My mom not only advised against being a musician, but also warned not to get involved with divorcees.

    I'm a slow study...

My dad always warned me about walking behind the horses since it will spook them and they'll kick you. I ran behind one... once. I don't remember what happened. All I remember is waking up with my nasal cavity smashed in and bone fragment all in my face. I was 5 y.o. when it happened. I was afraid of horses for the rest of my childhood all the way up until I was an adult. Even now I have a huge amount of respect for the beasts.

My mom scared the sh*t out of me as a little kid when riding the subway, telling me to be conscious of what/who's behind me when the train is coming in and to stand back and away from the tracks because a crazy person might try to push me onto the tracks. I've seen my fair share of whack-jobs on the subway and I'm glad my mom taught me that one. Still useful to this day, especially now that I ride the subway almost every day to get to work and uni.

Don't lend anything you care about to anyone. Been burnt by it too. Sorry dad. I should have listened.
