There is a guy wanting to sell me a Marshall JCM900 50W 1x12" Combo. It's in great shape, pots are OK and the tolex is like new. Would you guys consider it a good buy for $450?

If it's in great shape, that's a good price.

You should definitely research it and realize what you're buying before you get one. Opinions vary, of course.

The JCM900 was designed in the late 80's for the kind of rock music that was popular back then (shredders). It's a smoother, higher gain version of the JCM800.

As usual, some people love them, others hate them.

But $450 is a fair price.

Thanks for the input guys. Of course will I play it before I buy it, but I probaby won't be able to dime it. I wan't to get a feel of if its worth my while. If it's a decent amp and I can get it at a resonable price then I can just unload it without any financial loss if Im not satisfied. Always nice to have a new toy that encourage me to practice more.

Note: the two 900 combos that I have, I had to change the bias range resistors in both amps in order to get the bias set properly.

I've opened another thread on a friend's JCM900 100w 1x12 I'm borrowing, and I have to say I like this amp. As some people said on TGP, the stock speaker isn't great, but I plugged it into my 2x12 w/ V30+G12H and it sounds fantastic.

I like the cleans, I like the gain channel, the reverb is great and it sounds awesome with pedals.

Man, i would love to find a 1x12 or 2x12 that gets that great classic Marshall tone. i can't afford or have any use for a good head/cab setup (my Peavey C50 is hard enough to lug around). i was at GC the other day and they had a used jcm900 2x12 for $499. i plugged it into another Trad Pro but i wasn't crazy about the drive channel. i wish i could have had my pedal board with me. i bet it would have sounded good through my OCD or TS9.

I agree, I tried one not too long ago and fell in love with it. It's not the most popular Marshall, but who cares?

$450USD is a really good deal, I'd snag it.
