I am sure we can help you, given enough information. The regular USA Les Paul serial numbers are unique. Many of the preHistoic reissues, Classics and Historic serial numbers have been repeated amongst each other.

    example 8 0120 could be 1988 Prehistoric, 1998 Classic, 2010 R8 or 2000 R8, etc.

R9s would have the following SNs:

    9 3xxx 1993 or 2003
    9 4xxx 1994 or 2004
    9 5xxx 1995 or 2005
    9 6xxx 1996 or 2006
    9 7xxx 1997 or 2007
    9 8xxx 1998 or 2008
    9 9xxx 1999 0r 2009
    9 0xxx 2000 or 2010
    9 1xxx 2001
    9 2xxx 2002.

2002 and up R9s would have pointed inlays, pre 2002 would have rounded inlays.

PreHisorics made in 1989 would also begin with a 9 xxxx.

Oh, well sometimes the warranty card has the full model number, looks something like:

LPR9FHCSBNH1 If you can get ahold of that from the seller, we may be able to help.

    It's not a 59 reissue, it's a 60 reissue.

    First zero = 60 reissue
Second zero = made in 2000 or 2010

Could also be a 1990 Les Paul Flametop reissue ....a preHistoric.

Skatterbrane that is what it is listed as on eBay... Just need to confirm this is a real 1990 r9. Also are they fairly sought after being a pre historic

I could be remembering wrong but I had a 2000 classic and for some reason recall the serial number having two zeros to denote the year instead of one.

It was 00XXXX not 0 XXXX from what I remember. I'd go look if I hadn't of sold it.

There is no such thing as a 1990 R9, the first R9s came out in late 1993. From 1983-1990 they are known as Flametop Reissues. in 1991-early 93, they are either 1959 Flametop reissues or 1960 Flametop reissues.

Do you have a link? It could be a 1990 Flametop RI preHistoric, a 2000 R0 or a 2010 R0. I can't lookup an Ebay listing by serial number!

You're remembering right. I knew something didn't seem right when I posted that. I thought it was because I was still half asleep and hadn't had any coffee yet. :)
