The AFD standard is a standard Gibson model, the VOS is a custom shop model.

Not much except for the craftsmanship and maybe the grade of the wood. From what I've seen the Standards all had, more or less, BBQ-tops whereas the VOS models were nice and curly.

I think the Standard one has a Slash graphic on the headstock while the VOS has the normal Les Paul sutff.

    About 4K.

Gibson USA = Gibson LP Standard w/Derrig-style flame-top, and SD Slash pickups

Gibson Custom VOS = Almost EXACT copy of the original Derrig LP. The tops they've chosen for the VOS models are as close to the real deal that I have ever seen.

Still wouldn't buy either one though, but that's just me.

Try them both buy the one you like best. Finding out differences that may or may not make a difference to you will only skew your opinion.

    different tenon
    different TOM
Two thumbwheels on the bass side of the TOM (on the VOS)
    different. not better.
The other guitarist in my band has both.
We both prefer the standard guitars sound

Here is a back to back test on a 25$ 5w "mega amp"
You can even hear the wife telling me to stop playing that horrible song at the end of file 2 :laugh2:

AFDVOS spec 11-52s cap 020 pot 550k/550k tone 10 volume 10 vintage wiring
AFDUSA spec 10-46s cap 020 pot 300/500k tone 10 volume 10 modern wiring

VOS spec is much better IRL
I will try to make a real sample with my tube amp in a couple of weeks.

Did a screen shot to show that the USA even though it sound more distinct is more fuzzy IRL

    SM57+mega amp + novation NIO

I've seen some in person (from more than a few different places) that anyone would be hard-pressed to tel the difference. Maybe it was due to some sort of "dealer choice" program or something?
