Orange Tiny Terror!!! (advice?)
Yes, I am the proud new owner of this little beast!! My very first tube amp!
I have it connected to a Peavey Windsor 412 cab. It sounds absolutely incredible compared to my old amp. I've never felt the power of breaking into feedback anywhere on the neck if I hold a single note long enough!! One thing, though... I kinda miss the chugging bass-yness of my Line6 and was wonderin' what I could add to get it. I assume it's a gain thing cuz It has just the right amount of gain for some of the covers I play like LedZep and Darkness stuff but sometimes I like to metal it up... you know: the palm muting super bassy chugging, almost percussive, type of sound. Kinda like the beefyness in "The Pot" by Tool. It'd also be good for switching into leads. Shocking how 7watts on the Orange is just as loud as the 150watts on my Line6... |

Re: Orange Tiny Terror!!! (advice?)
Congrats!! IF you had a bass knob, we could clear that up real quick! (Gotta razz you a little for not going w/ the Laney, afterall!) If you get a good pedal (I recommend the Behringer Vintage Tube Monster - 12AX7 tube goodness) that has its own EQ, you can crank the bass on that... Otherwise, the amp is voiced as it is without individual EQ knobs. Again, congrats - that seems like a very cool little amp. Are you running a pedal of any kind right now? |

Re: Orange Tiny Terror!!! (advice?)
Mann, I have no idea about pedals and shizzz. Would these things tighten up the bottom end and add that extra oomph when palm muting things?

Re: Orange Tiny Terror!!! (advice?)
Here in this Youtube clip is Rob Chappers doing a variety of metal with the Tiny Terror. He uses a MXR BOOST pedal to give the added muscle.
YouTube - Orange Tiny Terror Metal Buy this MXR pedal used in the video. Up to 20db of boost!!! I've personally used it and I also thought it kicked ass. Heres a link and discription of this MXR BOOST pedal. It's all you need, it will give you a beefier, heavier sound of what you allready like in the Tiny Terror without coloring it. Re: Orange Tiny Terror!!! (advice?)
Here is a hot question.
How does the TT sound clean and cranked? Is it possible to have it clean and cranked, and then pushed with a pedal.

Re: Orange Tiny Terror!!! (advice?)
There are a whole lot of suggestions going on here. Lets make sure Paul gets the best solution for what he needs. From what I originally read, he loves the amps own overdrive and sound. When it comes to the HEAVIER stuff, the amp doesn't have that over the top gain, or low end for muted riffage and what not. Nothing was mentioned about clean headroom at all. Some guys here are suggestion distortion pedals to be used as a second channel used with the amp while its on a cleaner setting. While a great suggestion, and something that I personally have to do with my one-knob Gibson GA-5 if I want clean headroom or distortion at low volumes, or mic'd. Sometimes I just use the volume knob on my guitar to get cleaner, then turn up to get more volume and overdrive. This amp is a low wattage Class A single channel amp lets not forget. At high volumes, it is going to break up, almost regardless of how the gain knob is set. Only a change of the 12ax7 tube to a lower gain type of tube will decrease the AMP's own gain to provide more clean headroom. If Paul likes the sound of the amp AS IS, and uses the amp in its naturally provided overdriven state ALMOST ALL THE TIME, but wants more muscle and low end, then you don't want to ALTER the amps sound yet you want to SHAPE it a bit. That MXR Boost pedal will MORE than do the job (OBVIOUSLY AS CLEARLY CAN BE SEEN AND HEARD IN THE ROB CHAPPERS VIDEO DEMO!), perhaps a Boss 7 band equalizer pedal, or a very subtle OD pedal with more emphasis on low end enhancement, as Class A amps generally are not strong in that department.

Re: Orange Tiny Terror!!! (advice?)
wowza there, Charmersfh. That's alotta Orange! I love their funky looks.
Maybe when I'm older I'll have a big Orange stack. But probably leaning more for a huge Laney stack :P. But for now, the Tiny Terror is my only amp and I want it to sound perfect. Boost pedal, eh? I've seen a few in the shop so I guess I'll give 'em a test drive. Other then that, all I need is a wah or something. Thanks everybody for helping me in my tube journey!! |

Re: Orange Tiny Terror!!! (advice?)
A guy from ProGuitarShopDemos on youtube just told me that the chugging bass i want comes from power and I need a 100w metal amp.
He's scaring me... Is he right? ![]() Is there really no pedal that can slake my thirst? |

Re: Orange Tiny Terror!!! (advice?)
Bro, watch this video that I posted earlier from Rob Chappers. He uses a PRS humbucking guitar in it, not even a Les Paul. He plugs into a MXR MC401 Boost pedal, and into the Tiny Terror. WATCH this video!!!!
YouTube - Orange Tiny Terror Metal With an LES PAUL and this BOOST pedal, its all you need!!!!

Re: Orange Tiny Terror!!! (advice?)
Jeez. Not enough gain in that one? If that isn't enough gain/balls for you, then an overdrive pedal would be needed. The Visual Sound Route 808 will push your amp both in boost and gain and has a bass boost. For what it seems you are looking for, you might have to look at this from Krank. I'd personally go with this one for all out madness, without coloring the Tiny's tone too much.......

Re: Orange Tiny Terror!!! (advice?)
Dice, that pedal sure is interesting. For the money it is a lot of pedal. I posted this clip in Squawk Box of this pedal with the Blackheart Little Giant head thru a 4x12...........
http://www.netmusicians.org/files/77...;20Shuffle.mp3 Sounds good to me, and I know you also seem to be quite happy with it. I'd personally wonder how much the tube in that pedal contributes to it's sound, versus the pedals circuitry or something. Regardless, if it sounds good, it sounds good! Tough for me to back anything from Behringer but hey, I'm not that much of a cork sniffer, and at $70 it's not that much of a risk. The only concern of mine with this pedal is at high volumes with the TT. If the volume is jacked on the TT, then it is achieving quite a bit of gain on it's own. Is that Behringer pedal versatile enough to give just a bit of extra gain to the amp and not overshadow the amps own characteristics and tone? Would it cause insane noise and uncontrollable feedback issues?

Re: Orange Tiny Terror!!! (advice?)
Yeah - you can run real low gain and still sound good. The tube is running the show I think - just like your tube amp, you've got to let it warm up for a good 15-20 seconds before you'll get any kind of sound out of it. The noise gate feature really does eliminate any unwanted feedback at high gain - its a nice feature (although I rarely use it - I like some feedback when I want it!). It works out perfectly for me - since I'm running a single channel head and need the clean sound, so the pedal ended up being "the answer." Some that did not work for me were the Metal Muff, Boss Metal Zone, Danelectro Fab Tone, and anything that I could program in my Boss effects processor. It just needed that tube OD to compliment the tube amp, otherwise it didn't sound much better than a solid state amp with any of those pedals that I'd tried. The Metal Muff was close... but the Tube Monster is just right on the money. Its more of a vintage sound, like its name suggests - but if you need some metal, just scoop out the mids and it sounds as good or better than any "metal" pedal that I've used.

Re: Orange Tiny Terror!!! (advice?)
Listening to your clip (sounds great by the way) - you can achieve that sort of sound w/ the mids scooped out, back to about 3-4. I usually keep my mids around 7 or so, for a little more mid range bite - not quite as "smooth" though. Great sounding clip - nice work!
